2022 Mercedes-AMG GLA 35 and A35 sedan launched in Malaysia

KUALA LUMPUR: After launching the new GLC 300e and GLB 35 last week, Mercedes-Benz has now launched two more new models in Malaysia, the Mercedes-AMG GLA 35 and A35 sedan. These new cars are locally assembled at the brand' Pekan facility. Let’s know about these performance cars in detail, starting with the GLA 35.

2022 Mercedes-AMG GLA 35

Globally introduced in 2019, the GLA 35 is the performance version of the regular GLA. It is powered by a 2.0-litre turbocharged 4-cylinder petrol mill that kicks out a maximum power of 306 PS at 5800 rpm and a peak torque of 400 Nm at 3000-4000 rpm. The power is sent to the wheels via an 8-speed AMG Speedshift dual-clutch automatic, paired with the AMG Performance 4Matic AWD system. This configuration enables the SUV to hit the century sprint time in 5.2 seconds.

Included in the AMG-specific performance bits are AMG Dynamic Select drive modes - Comfort, Slippery, Sport, Sport+ and Individual, AMG exhaust system, AMG Ride Control suspension system, and bigger cross-drilled rotors on both axles.

Design-wise, the car features an AMG-specific front grille edged by Adaptive Highbeam Assist Plus headlights. Also part of the kit is a more aggressive bumper and 20-inch AMG 5-twin-spoke alloy wheels. 

The interior is kitted with an AMG-specific flat-bottom steering wheel, Artico leather and Dinamica combination upholstery, dual 10.25-inch displays, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity, Burmester sound system, Thermotronic automatic air-conditioning, AMG floor mats, and more. Parts of the safety kit include seven airbags, Active Lane Keeping Assist, Active Brake Assist, Active Parking Assist with Parktronic, and Blind Spot Assist.

The 2022 Mercedes-AMG GLA 35 price in Malaysia starts at RM 345,048 (on-the-road, without insurance and sales and service tax). After June 30, 2022, the price will be increased to RM 363,888 (with sales and service tax).

2022 Mercedes-AMG A35 sedan

Earlier launched as a CBU model in 2019, the A35 sedan has now come in the CKD form. However, it continues to be run on the same 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder mill with 306 PS and 400 Nm. Shifting duties are also handled by the same seven-speed AMG Speedshift 7G dual-clutch transmission and AMG Performance 4Matic AWD. Other mechanical specifications also remain identical.

While the mechanical gears remain the same, the A35 CKD sedan benefits from an enhanced kit as compared to the predecessor. It gets a new Parking package, Keyless-Go Comfort Package, a 360-degree camera, head-up display, AMG steering buttons, wireless charging, a Burmester surround sound system, and MBUX Interior Assistant. Rest of the exterior and interior stuff is almost similar to the CBU model.

The 2022 Mercedes-AMG A35 sedan is priced at RM 325,090 (on-the-road, without insurance and sales and service tax). After June 30 2022, the model will be priced at RM 348,888 (with sales and service tax).
