Mercedes Benz EQT teased ahead of next month debut

KUALA LUMPUR: The all-electric EQ division of the luxury automaker Mercedes Benz seems to be on a roll. Just after unveiling the fully electric EQB at the 2021 Auto Shanghai, which itself came a very few days after the EQA, the company is now ramping up for the global reveal of the EQT concept. The shadowy teaser of this yet another EV in the ‘EQ’ vertical has been recently released by the automaker while announcing its debut date, which is May 10, 2021.

The upcoming EQT is known to be the electric equivalent of the T-class van, which is the brand’s light commercial vehicle set for launch in the first half of 2022. According to the automaker, the upcoming concept is a blend of a spacious and variable interior teamed up with an attractive design and Mercedes' high standards of connectivity, value, comfort, and safety.

The EQT has already been spotted while testing in Europe on several occasions. It is basically a minivan that is likely to cater to the family's needs; it could also be a viable option for highway runs. 

About the powertrain details, the automaker has not yet dropped any hint. But we cannot take reference from the brand’s other electric van, the EQV. It is equipped with an electric motor delivering a maximum power of 204 and a peak torque of 362 Nm. The motor is powered by a 90-kWh battery providing the van a cruising range of around 250 miles. According to this, we can expect the EQT to have less than 200 miles range as it is positioned below in the lineup.

Mercedes says that the upcoming EQT is a near-production version that will debut next month as a concept. However, there is no official word on the debut of the road-going version. But if it is near production, we can expect the road-ready EQT by the end of this year. The growing Mercedes EQ family currently has five members - EQA, EQB, EQC, EQV, and EQS, joining the list soon are the EQT and EQE, which is the electric counterpart of the GLE.
