Mercedes-Benz Malaysia previews EQC EV
KUALA LUMPUR: Today seems to be a busy day for the Mercedes-Benz Malaysia, as apart from launching the all-new S 560 e plug-in hybrid sedan, the brand also showcased the EQC EV. In this article, we’ll be discussing the later that is the German automaker’s first in-production electric vehicle and will be launched in the local market soon. Prospective buyers would be able to order the car starting in 2020. Also, it is estimated that the EQC 400 4Matic would hold a price tag of approx. RM 600,000.
Under its prolonged hood sits a pair of the electric motor, one for each axle. These motors are further paired to a fixed-ratio transmission unit, and together they develop 402 hp of power and 765 Nm of torque. In order to provide greater efficiency, the car essentially is front-wheel driven; however, when extra performance is needed the rear motor kicks-in.
The car can achieve 0 to 100 kmph run in 5.1 seconds, and its top speed is electronically limited to 180 kmph. The motor is paired to an 80 kWh lithium-ion battery that features six modules with two carrying 48 cells and four with 72 cells each, making a total of 348 cells. The total kerb weight of the car is 2,495 kg, out of which 652 kg is attributed to the battery.
In order to make the most of the car’s range and performance, the EQC EV gets five drive modes - Comfort, Sport, Individual, Max Range, and Eco. The Eco Assist feature further adds to the car’s efficiency rating using radar, camera, and navigation data to tailor guidance based on the speed limit, distance from vehicles in front, and route profile.
By the looks of it, the EQC looks similar in size to the GLC, however, on the sheet, the EV is bigger. The car measures 4,761 mm in length (105 mm more), 2,096 mm in width (206 mm more), and 1,624 mm (15 mm lower) in height. The wheelbase is 3 mm longer measuring 2,873 mm.
The model previewed in Malaysia is a left-hand drive unit and isn’t the representation of the local model. Therefore the exterior and cabin features might differ. The car on display showcased featured -
