According to the WLTP cycle, the GLE 400 e 4MATIC offers up to 114 km of all electric driving, depending on driving style, traffic and road conditions. For many owners this is enough to cover daily commutes on pure EV mode before the engine even needs to start. This is the first time a GLE plug-in hybrid is officially offered here, and it arrives with a quoted electric-only range of up to 114 km on the WLTP cycle, depending on driving conditions. On paper at least, that is enough for many daily commutes to be done without starting the engine.

Under the bonnet is a 2.0-litre turbocharged 4-cylinder engine paired with a permanently excited synchronous electric motor. The petrol engine is rated at 185 kW (252 hp) and 400 Nm, while the electric motor contributes 115 kW and 440 Nm. Combined, the system delivers up to 280 kW (381 hp) and 650 Nm.
Drive goes through a 9G-TRONIC automatic transmission to the 4MATIC all-wheel drive system, with 0–100 km/h quoted at 6.1 seconds and a top speed of 210 km/h.
The plug-in hybrid hardware allows the GLE 400 e 4MATIC to prioritise EV running where it makes most sense, such as in urban areas, with the hybrid control system selecting electric drive for suitable sections of a route. There is also an Off-Road drive programme that allows all-electric operation on light off-road terrain.
Charging is handled by an 11 kW onboard AC charger, suitable for home wallboxes or public AC points. A mode 2 charging cable is supplied as standard for domestic sockets, although that is the slower option.

AMG Line looks, familiar GLE shape
On the outside, the GLE 400 e 4MATIC is sold in AMG Line trim. That brings the diamond grille with Mercedes-Benz pattern in chrome, AMG front apron with chrome trim, AMG side sills and colour-coded wheel arch extensions, as well as an AMG rear apron with a diffuser-style insert.
Filling the arches are 21-inch AMG 5-twin-spoke light-alloy wheels. Aluminium-look illuminated running boards with rubber studs and a panoramic sliding sunroof complete the familiar premium SUV look.
Lighting comes from MULTIBEAM LED headlamps with Adaptive Highbeam Assist Plus. The brand’s signature daytime running light “light flare” is present, and the system can adapt the light pattern based on conditions.
Colour choices include obsidian black, selenite grey and high-tech silver, with MANUFAKTUR opalite white bright offered as a surcharge option.

Inside, the GLE 400 e 4MATIC is configured as a five-seater with AMG Line interior trim. Upholstery is a mix of ARTICO man-made leather and MICROCUT microfibre, while Anthracite open-pore oak wood is used for the trim pieces. The dashboard and beltlines are covered in ARTICO too, with contrast stitching to lift the cabin visually. Illuminated door sills with “Mercedes-Benz” lettering add to the premium feel.
A multifunction sports steering wheel in nappa leather, flattened at the bottom and perforated at the grip areas, plus AMG sports pedals in brushed stainless steel, give a slightly sportier touch without turning the GLE into a faux performance SUV.
Comfort and convenience kit includes THERMOTRONIC automatic climate control, electrically adjustable rear seats, USB Package Plus with five USB-C ports, wireless charging for front occupants’ devices and 64-colour ambient lighting. The KEYLESS-GO Convenience Package provides keyless entry and start, along with HANDS-FREE ACCESS for automatic tailgate operation.

Navigation is handled by MBUX Navigation Premium and MBUX Augmented Reality, which overlays navigation instructions on camera images to make junctions and turns easier to interpret.
Parking duties are supported by Active Parking Assist with PARKTRONIC and the Parking Package with 360° camera. The transparent bonnet function uses the camera system to project a virtual view of what is directly in front and under the vehicle, useful when navigating off-road sections or steep ramps.
The Driving Assistance Package Plus is standard, bringing in features such as Active Distance Assist DISTRONIC with Active Steering Assist, Evasive Steering Assist and Active Lane Keeping Assist. The suite is meant to reduce fatigue on long journeys rather than take over from the driver.
