Mercedes-Benz GLC 200 4MATIC launched in Malaysia, priced at RM329,888

KUALA LUMPUR: Mercedes-Benz Malaysia has added another variant to its popular GLC line up with the introduction of the GLC 200 4MATIC, now serving as the new entry point to the brand’s midsize SUV range.

The Mercedes-Benz GLC 200 4MATIC AMG Line is priced at RM329,888 in Peninsular Malaysia, on the road without insurance and inclusive of 10 percent sales tax.

Positioned below the existing GLC variants, the GLC 200 4MATIC comes as a locally assembled model from the Mercedes-Benz plant in Pekan, Pahang, and is aimed at buyers who still want the full SUV experience and badge appeal, but with a simpler internal combustion and mild hybrid setup.

Under the bonnet is a 2.0 litre four cylinder twin scroll turbocharged engine from the FAME modular engine family, paired with a 48 volt mild hybrid system and an integrated starter generator. The petrol engine alone produces 204 hp and 320 Nm of torque, while the ISG contributes up to 17 kW and 205 Nm to assist with acceleration and smooth start stop operation.

Drive goes to all four wheels via the 4MATIC all wheel drive system. On paper, the GLC 200 4MATIC accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 7.8 seconds and tops out at 221 km/h. AGILITY CONTROL suspension with passive selective damping is fitted, aimed at balancing body control with day to day comfort.

Exterior, AMG flavour as standard

Visually, the GLC 200 4MATIC is not the stripped back entry model some might expect. It comes with the AMG Line exterior package as standard, which means a more aggressive AMG front apron with larger air intakes, a diffuser style rear apron and sportier styling all round.

The SUV rides on 20 inch AMG 5 spoke light alloy wheels that sit flush within the wide track, while the front end wears a radiator grille with the Mercedes-Benz pattern. At the rear, the two piece LED tail lights feature a three dimensional inner design and sit above a simulated chrome underguard and integrated chrome look tailpipe finishers.

Polished aluminium roof rails and aluminium look running boards with rubber studs are also fitted, leaning into the SUV theme. Lighting is handled by LED High Performance headlamps with Adaptive Highbeam Assist, and there is surround lighting with a projected Mercedes-Benz logo for a more upmarket welcome.

Inside, tech heavy and fully loaded

The AMG Line treatment continues in the cabin. Upholstery is ARTICO man made leather in black, with the dashboard and beltlines also finished in ARTICO with a nappa look. An AMG multifunction sports steering wheel in nappa leather and AMG sports pedals round off the sportier touches.

The dashboard layout follows the latest Mercedes-Benz design language, with a 12.3 inch high resolution digital driver display and an 11.9 inch central touchscreen that rises from the centre console. Both screens are slightly angled towards the driver.

Trim pieces include Anthracite linestructure lime wood and a metal structure finish for the centre console. MBUX, the Mercedes-Benz User Experience system, is standard with MBUX Navigation Premium and MBUX Augmented Reality Navigation for more detailed route guidance.

Practicality and convenience items include the EASY-PACK powered tailgate, KEYLESS-GO, HANDS-FREE ACCESS, wireless charging in front and six fast charging USB-C ports. The Boot Comfort Package adds electrically folding rear seat backrests and a 12V socket in the boot.

Cabin comfort is supported by THERMATIC automatic climate control, heat and noise insulating acoustic glass and roller sunblinds for the rear side windows. Ambient lighting with 64 colours and illuminated door sills with Mercedes-Benz lettering are also fitted.

Safety and driver assistance

On the safety front, the GLC 200 4MATIC comes with a suite of active systems. Active Lane Keeping Assist can intervene with gentle steering inputs if the vehicle begins to stray from its lane, while Blind Spot Assist and Active Brake Assist add extra layers of protection in daily traffic.

Mercedes-Benz’s PRE-SAFE system is also included, preparing the vehicle and occupants if a potential collision is detected. The Parking Package with 360 degree camera and Active Parking Assist with PARKTRONIC helps with tight urban spaces, and the transparent bonnet function in off-road mode allows the driver to virtually see what is directly in front of and under the front of the car on the central display.
