KLIMS 2026: smart #5 gets the adventure treatment with new outdoor accessories in Malaysia

KUALA LUMPUR: smart Malaysia is using KLIMS 2026 to push a different angle for the #5 -- not just as an electric SUV for city driving, but as something you'd actually consider taking on a road trip or camping weekend.

The display at this year's show leans into the outdoor lifestyle bit, with a fully accessorised #5 on the floor showing off a roof carrier, side bag, and side ladder.

It's a unique framing for the EV SUV. The #5 is the biggest thing smart sells in Malaysia right now, and with the Premium variant rated at up to 590km of range and the BRABUS at 540km, there's a genuine case to be made that this thing can handle the kind of driving most Malaysians actually do -- KL to Penang, KL to Kota Bharu, a long weekend up north without stressing about charging.

The Camping Mode is probably the most interesting talking point here. It essentially lets you use the car as a base camp, keeping the climate and power systems running while you're parked, which is a useful thing to have if you're heading somewhere that doesn't have much infrastructure.

Inside, smart is pointing to the Sennheiser audio system as a key feature -- a collaboration you don't usually see at this price point. Whether or not that justifies the price tag is a matter of personal priorities, but it does help differentiate the #5 from similarly priced Chinese EVs on the Malaysian market.

Pricing and accessories

The smart #5 is priced from RM 209,800 for the Premium and RM 259,800 for the BRABUS in Malaysia. Nine genuine accessories are available for the model, covering everything from boot protection to the outdoor-focused items on show at KLIMS. The full list:
