Mitsubishi Motors Malaysia makes another worthy social contribution

KUALA LUMPUR: Corporate social responsibility is part of each and every company’s profile, however, Mitsubishi Motors Malaysia, the official distributor of Mitsubishi cars in the country seems to take up this part of their job rather seriously. The automaker recently donated a high-power solar system to Rumah Adat, Orang Asli’s shared community space.

Arba Rahman, Senior Vice President of Mitsubishi Motors Malaysia said, “As part of Malaysian society, we want to see Malaysians, even the indigenous community, live a better life. With high-power solar systems, we will be providing the Orang Asli community access to affordable and renewable energy that enhances productivity- allowing community projects to continue even after dark, minimizing health and environmental impact from non-renewable energy, lesser environmental pollution, and lastly reducing energy expenditure from buying expensive energy sources that are not sustainable.”

He further added, “This effort is together with Mitsubishi Motors Corporation (MMC) global CSR program ‘STEP to the future’ which focuses on four main themes, standing for the first letters of Society, Traffic safety, Environment, and People. At MMM, we focused on benefitting society through an emphasis on the Environment and People, to create a better society where people can hope for a better future.”

The said donation by Mitsubishi Motors Malaysia was made via a non-profit organization called Global Peace Foundation, whose mission is to build cohesive and resilient Orang Asli communities.

MMM contribution to Orang Asli

Here’s a brief on the Orang Asli community -

  • The Orang Asli’s houses and community spaces experience a lack of access to grid electricity which leads to several health risks, environmental impact and expensive energy expenses
  • To fulfil their energy needs these communities often put up bonfires during the night using dried palm fruits. This generates a lot of smoke causing caught and watery eyes among the villagers
  • The Orang Asli’s community is built from resources such as bamboo wood along with items like PVC and zinc. All these materials are flammable, thus making use of fire as a source of energy and light all the more dangerous for the villagers
  • Some members of the community also use petrol to power batteries and generators to fulfil energy needs, further making the situation all the riskier

This initiative by MMM will greatly help the Orang Asli community improve their living conditions and much more
