OMODA & JAECOO marks 2 years globally – Good start in Malaysia

KUALA LUMPUR: OMODA & JAECOO has officially turned two. What started as a new automotive sub-brand out of Shanghai is now being marketed as one of the fastest-growing car brand globally. And while that may sound like a big claim, the numbers do back it up—at least in some markets.

KEY TAKEAWAYS

  • How long has OMODA been in the Malaysian market?

OMODA entered the Malaysian market in 2023 and is still in the early stages of building its presence with models like the JAECOO J7 and OMODA 5.
  • What is the purpose of the 2 Years 2gerher campaign?

The 2 Years 2gether campaign is a global celebration of OMODA & JAECOO’s second anniversary, featuring real user stories shared through video tributes across multiple countries, including Malaysia.
  • To mark the milestone, the brand has kicked off a global campaign called “2 Years 2gether”, featuring stories from owners, dealers, and media across several regions including Europe, the Middle East, Southeast Asia, and North America.

The idea is simple: real-world users sharing their experience with the brand through short videos. Over a thousand such clips are expected to make the rounds on social media.

Since its launch in Malaysia in 2023, JAECOO has been slowly building a presence. The J7 SUV is their star model here, positioned as a premium urban SUV with off-road credibility.

JAECOO has made a strong impression in Malaysia since entering the market in 2023. Its debut model, the J7, has gained steady traction thanks to its rugged design, premium positioning, and off-road-ready capabilities.

Backed by aggressive marketing efforts—including roadshows, mall showcases, and digital campaigns—the brand has seen encouraging sales growth in a relatively short span of time.

Globally, the brand claims to have reached 500,000 users and over 7 million followers online. They also point to strong showings in Malaysia and Europe, with the JAECOO J7 SHS plug-in hybrid ranking among the top three in Spain and gaining traction in the UK with over 1,000 units sold in its first month.

That same hybrid model, the JAECOO J7 PHEV has already arrived in Malaysia, priced at RM159,000. Positioned as a more attainable alternative in the plug-in hybrid SUV segment, it goes up against pricier options from brands like Volvo.

The Jaecoo J7 PHEV is powered by a 1.5L turbocharged petrol engine paired with an electric motor, delivering a combined output of 347 PS and 525 Nm.

It offers an electric-only range of up to 106 km, a WLTP-rated fuel consumption of 1.2L/100 km, and supports DC fast charging (30% to 80% in 20 minutes). It’s the first PHEV in Malaysia under RM200k.

Inside, it features a 12.3” infotainment display, wireless Apple CarPlay/Android Auto, a 360° camera, and ADAS features like lane keep assist and blind spot monitoring.

It’s locally assembled in Shah Alam and comes interesting features such as a free V2L charger as well as a boot cover that doubles as a projector screen.

With its off-road styling, electric-only driving capability, and competitive pricing, it’s aimed at buyers looking for a balance between ruggedness, efficiency, and everyday practicality.

Looking ahead, OMODA & JAECOO plans to continue its product rollout with the upcoming OMODA C3, a compact crossover with a more experimental design.

It’s part of the brand’s strategy to target what it calls “LOHAS” buyers (those interested in sustainability and health) for OMODA, and “New Elites” for JAECOO—essentially working professionals with a taste for something different.

In Malaysia, JAECOO is off to a solid start. With strong early sales, growing brand awareness, and a clear product identity, the foundations for long-term success are already in place.

If current momentum continues, the brand looks set to become a serious contender in the SUV segment.
