Perodua attains a 7.3% sales increment over last year; sold 37,400 units in early 2019

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia’s largest car manufacturer, Perodua has delivered nearly 37,400 vehicles in January and February combinedly as compared to 34,800 units in the same months, last year. With ample demand for some of its models including Axia, Bezza, and Myvi, the company witnessed a 7.3% year-on-year increment over its sale in 2018.

The company claims that they sold 10,100 units of Axia, along with 5,900 Bezza, 15,000 Myvi, 3,600 Aruz, and 2,700 Alza cars in the first two months of 2019. Furthermore, the production of vehicles has also been increased by 6.2% as it reached 36,500 units compared to 34,375 units during the same period last year.

Managing director of Perodua Sales, Datuk Dr. Zahari Husin said that their newest model, the seven-seater Aruz SUV, notched up over 13,000 bookings since its debut in January. Among the two variants of this car (X and AV), the AV variant shares 85 percent of the bookings. Dr. Zahari also said, “We have adjusted our production to reduce the waiting time for the Aruz. This will continue in March as well. We are thankful for your support and your patience, and look forward to serving you for many years to come.”

Zahari further added that this increased sales performance came as a result of the brand’s efforts to improve the delivery time of the vehicles. He has mentioned that “While we defer with the Malaysian Automotive Association’s numbers, we estimate our year-to-date market share to stand at 41%.”

To celebrate its success and in quench of reaching buyers uniquely, Perodua is also holding a nationwide roadshow called Aruz On Tour, from February 13 in Selangor.

The increased production and sales of the SUV and touring cars also supplemented the brand’s effort in competing with their national rival Proton, which is known for producing big cars.
