Peugeot 308 facelift launched in Malaysia, priced at RM 129,888

KUALA LUMPUR:  Most of us were aware of the updated Peugeot 308 due to its brochure leak last month. The French automaker, has finally revealed the facelifted 308 in THP and GTi forms. The new C-segment hatchback has been presented by the local distributor, Naza in Malaysia.

You get an i-Cockpit infotainment system in the cabin that comes with a 9.7-inch touchscreen equipped with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and MirrorLink connectivity. The pre-facelift model had a panoramic glass roof, a massage function for the seats, and the Alcantara seat trim which the new 308 THP model sadly misses out. Also, to be noted is the multi-info display, which is now of a lower resolution compared to the previous one. Keyless entry, dual-zone climate control, push-button start, six speakers, and a reverse camera are some other major features which the facelifted model retains.

The front bumper is now much sportier and has got bigger air-intakes than before. The lion badge has also now been repositioned and is housed in the more upright and taller grille. The 18-inch Saphir two-tone alloy wheels which are now finished in black have also been retained. The facelifted Peugeot hatchback continue to feature the same LED headlights along with the always-on triple-claw tail lights.

The power mill is a re-tuned 1.6-litre THP turbocharged four-cylinder petrol-fed, which now pumps out 167 PS at 6,000 rpm, and 240 Nm at 1,400 rpm. Previously, the same engine used to produce 152 PS and the same amount of torque as in the re-tuned version. Aisin’s 6-speed automatic transmission does the power delivery, however, the new electronic gear lever still doesn’t make its way to the Malaysian unit.

ABS with EBD and brake assist, six airbags, stability control, and hill start assist make it to the safety features list. Autonomous emergency braking and adaptive cruise control which were a part of the Driver Assistance Pack in the last-gen 308, are nowhere to be seen.

The facelifted 308 has been priced at RM 129,888 without insurance, putting it very close to the last-gen model which sells at RM 132,888 including insurance and other taxes. 3-years 24-hour Peugeot Assistance along with a 5-year or 120,000 km warranty are included in the price.
