Renault Kwid – a new A-Segment Crossover – First Impressions
Kuala Lumpur: Right now you are looking at Renault’s first venture at an A-segment crossover, this is Renault Kwid, which almost everyone in the industry previously thought would be called Renault Kayou. Riding on Renault-Nissan’s CMF-A platform, this car was previewed for the first time at New Delhi Auto Expo 2014.
With length standing 3680mm and a 1580mm width, Kwid is 40mm longer and 40mm thinner than Perodua Azia while the ground clearance measuring 180mm outsmart big players like Honda HR-V. Inside, embedded is a 7-inch touchscreen alongside a digital instruction panel. According to claims made by Renault, it also has the most spacious cabin and biggest boot in the class. Underneath the bonnet there lies a 0.8-litre engine, which when connected to a 5-speed manual transmission makes Kwid an extremely amazing vehicle for restricted fuel consumption.
According to reports, Kwid will be launched in India with pricing set between 300k to 400k INR which makes approximately RM 17k- 23k. And although India would be the prime market for this Renault budget, countries like Russia, China, Brazil and Malaysia could get a grab at it too.
