Vehicle ownership tip: Removing and replacing car key battery

If the device that activates the remote locking system suddenly goes low on battery what would you do? Well, don’t you worry. We will guide you on how to change the battery yourself without spending much on it.

The battery of your car key is most likely to run out of fuel within a period of 6-8 months. Nowadays almost all the vehicles, be it high-end or low-end models, are equipped with a remote locking system.
What are the indications of a low battery? The range of the transmitter will decrease. Unlike before, you will have to stay close to your car to unlock it. The LED light will start to dim and eventually disappear. What most of us do is start pressing the push button harder and end up breaking it. Don't wait for the entire battery to drain out. When the battery starts showing signs of weakness, replace it with a new battery. Here is how

Study the design of your car key :

There should be a small indentation for you to slip a flat screwdriver head inside it. Before trying to take the lid off, place a small tape on the tip of your screwdriver to avoid breaking the outer shell.

Use the right tool :

If you damage the head of your key by any means, it could get into a big trouble. With the correct size of the screwdriver, the lead should open and you will see another small compartment inside. It will reveal the battery size that you will need. If you have to go through the extra compartment, do not panic. Replace the battery in the right orientation.

Even if the transmitter does pass any signal, the transponder is still working :

Pull out the traditional key and manually open the door as it is normally done. Now go near the ignition system and it should start without any further glitch.

Here are some extra tips for you :

  • If the size of your key's battery is unusual, we would suggest you keep a stock.
  • Use both your spare as well as your main remote keys in the rotation. A battery that is continuously in use lasts longer than the one that is left unused.
  • Cloning of keys along with the transmitters and transponders is pretty common nowadays. You can always go for an extra pair of keys.
