The Nissan Almera might belong to the most entry-level price point of compact sedans. However, given its nice length and wheelbase dimensions, the Almera has a good road presence with longer footprints on the surface. Thanks to this road presence, the Nissan Almera has got the aura of a ‘big car’ which a person generally upgrading from a compact hatchback to a sedan demands from his new bigger car.
Thanks to a much longer wheelbase, the Nissan Almera offers best in class rear seat experience, which some of the sedans from one category could also not provide. With great legroom and knee room and good under-thigh support, the rear passengers are being offered good comfort levels in the Almera.
With a bigger focus on comfort for the passengers, the Nissan Almera also is praiseworthy for the plush ride quality it offers. The suspension is on a softer side, which works wonders while driving over broken sections of the tarmac.
Despite being an entry-level compact sedan, the Perodua Bezza offers exceptional space levels, which are comparable to sedans from one segment above. The rear seat of the cabin is quite spacious, with excellent legroom, knee room and shoulder room for three full-sized adults. At the same time, the boot space offered by the Perodua Bezza too is best in its segment.
The Perodua Bezza is offered with both the options of 1.0-litre and 1.3-litre petrol, both of which provide best-in-class fuel efficiency figures. The manual, as well as automatic variants in both the engines, deliver class-leading fuel economies of over 21kmpl, which is quite exceptional for a sedan of this class.
For a compact sedan, the overall driving feel of the Perodua Bezza is quite convenient. The turning radius is lowest in the segment and coupling up with soft steering and suspension setup, the Bezza feels very light and easy to drive while tackling daily traffic conditions.
While the Nissan Almera has the stance and dimensions of a big sedan, the interior cabin design, fit and finish are something which dulls out the overall experience. The dashboard feels low rent with a dated design, while at the same time, the choice of materials also feel as if they are built to cost.
Despite being positioned as a sedan which offers a suitable upgrade from a compact hatchback, the Nissan Almera lacks a number of premium features which nowadays are present in all of their competitors. Features like LEDs and a modern touch screen infotainment system are some things which are considered a necessity in a sedan, and the Nissan Almera lacks a number of them.
The 1.5-litre petrol engine in the Nissan Almera lacks the punch and feels dull when revved hard. The engine gets its job done, but the driving enthusiasts might not be impressed with its boring power delivery.
While the engines are exceptional in their purpose of delivering brilliant fuel economies, the small size of the engines also results in slightly lower performance outputs. Due to this reason, both the engines are not as exciting in their performance levels and driveability doesn’t inspire much of fun factor, which makes it quite dull to drive.
The Perodua Bezza is purely for those who prefer function over form, which is quite evident from the way it has been styled in and out. The overall exterior look of the Bezza is quite bland by today’s standards. At the same time, the interior cabin of the car, which is decently loaded with comfort and convenience features, is not as modern and delightful as one would expect from a car of this class.
