Asiabike 2025 kicks off in Jakarta with over 130 exhibitors showcasing EV Innovation

KUALA LUMPUR: For Messe Frankfurt Hong Kong, the organisers of Asia Bike, this year’s edition in Jakarta is more than just a trade show.

KEY TAKEAWAYS

  • What makes Asia Bike 2025 significant for Southeast Asia’s electric mobility landscape?

Asia Bike 2025, organised by Messe Frankfurt Hong Kong, reflects the region’s growing shift toward electric two- and three-wheelers. It brings together over 130 exhibitors from across Asia and beyond, including major Chinese brands and global players like Kawasaki and Honda, making it a key platform for innovation, policy dialogue, and consumer education.
  • Why is Jakarta an ideal host city for Asia Bike 2025?

Jakarta is a natural fit for Asia Bike due to its large population, dominant motorcycle usage, and the Indonesian government's stable, EV-friendly policies. These factors, combined with rising urban congestion and fuel costs, create a strong foundation for the electric two-wheeler market to grow rapidly.
  • According to Managing Director Wendy Wen, it’s a timely reflection of Southeast Asia’s rising interest in electric two- and three-wheelers—and a key opportunity to connect global innovation with regional ambition.

Asia Bike 2025, which officially opened on Tuesday, continues to build on the momentum of its previous editions. In its second edition, the show once again brings together a strong presence of Chinese EV brands including established names like Zhejiang Tianying Locomotive, Wuxi Mifun International, Jiangsu Zhongxing Motorcycles, and Sunra.

But this year, the spotlight isn’t limited to China. Global players are joining in as well—Kawasaki and Honda are showcasing their electric two-wheelers, while Vietnamese brand Before All Motorcycles adds further variety to the mix.

Altogether, more than 130 exhibitors from Indonesia and abroad are participating in Asia Bike 2025 and its co-hosted partner event, PEVS 2025—the region’s largest four-wheeled EV show, held simultaneously at the Jakarta International Expo (JIExpo).

The mix includes electric vehicle manufacturers, battery technology companies, charging infrastructure providers, and other mobility-related solution providers.

“Indonesia is a vast country with a flourishing population,” Wen shared. “But more importantly, the Indonesian government’s consistent and forward-looking EV policies are creating a stable foundation for electric mobility—especially in the two-wheeler segment.”

That policy support, coupled with Jakarta’s growing appetite for EVs, makes the city a natural host for Asia Bike. Motorcycles are still the primary mode of transport for millions of Indonesians, and with rising fuel prices, increased urban congestion, and climate concerns, the transition to electric is only accelerating.

Yet it’s not just about selling bikes. According to Wen, one of the show’s biggest draws is the opportunity to educate and build consumer confidence. “Battery durability, charging infrastructure, and long-term reliability are still big questions for many users. But with so many experienced Chinese manufacturers here, Asia Bike provides the perfect platform for technical exchange and in-depth product demonstrations,” she said.

As an example, to further facilitate dialogue and engagement, Jiangsu Province has been allowed to set up a dedicated Discussion Pavilion within the exhibition—a space for workshops, Q&A sessions, and expert panels to address common concerns and regulatory updates.

This year also marks the debut of three-wheeler EVs at Asia Bike. These vehicles, often overlooked, are increasingly relevant for micro-businesses and last-mile delivery services, offering practical, low-emission transport options for small cargo and urban logistics.

More than ever, Asia Bike 2025 is drawing a diverse and curious crowd—from policymakers and fleet operators to tech-savvy urban riders and traditional bikers looking for a quieter, cleaner alternative.

Wen remains hopeful that ASEAN nations can work toward a more harmonized framework for EV transportation, easing cross-border trade and unifying standards across Southeast Asia.

“The region is evolving fast,” Wen concluded. “And shows like Asia Bike are no longer just exhibitions—they’re proving grounds for innovation, collaboration, and shared progress.”
