Recognizing the increasing demand for high-end automobiles in the South-East Asian market, Ferrari has been constantly making efforts to increase its product line in these countries. Recently, Naza Italia officially introduced the Ferrari Portofino in Malaysia. The car made its local debut eight months after it was first showcased at the 2017 Frankfurt Motor Show. A new Italian grand tourer from Maranello, the Portofino is the latest and greatest GT car from Ferrari. The car takes its namesake from a village on the Italian Riviera, symbolising scenic beauty and elegant daily living. The Ferrari Portofino comes with an open top driving option and it effortlessly converts from a coupe to a convertible through the electronic retractable hard top in a just 14 seconds, while moving at lower speeds. The Portofino is powered by a Ferrari V8 turbo, a member of the same engine family that saw the carmaker win the International Engine of the Year Award in both 2016 and 2017. New interior features further update the Ferrari experience, with infotainment that has a 10.2-inch touchscreen display, a new air-conditioning system, a new steering wheel, 18-way adjustable electric-powered seats and more. The car's new wind deflectors, promising to cut airflow inside the cabin by 30 percent during open-top driving will be much appreciated by the customers. The Portofino is offered in 28 different colour schemes and retails at RM 948,000 (excluding taxes and duties).
Inside the cabin, you will spot the first in range EPS (Electric Power Steering. The onboard comfort has been duly considered and the cabin offers a number of new features which include an infotainment system with a 10.2-inch touchscreen display, a new air-conditioning system, 18-way adjustable electric-powered seats with a new backrest design, additional legroom for rear seat passengers, passenger display option and much more. The new wind deflector can now cut airflow inside the cabin by 30 per cent and reduces aerodynamic noise in open-top driving. The look and feel inside the cabin are plush and the materials used are of top-notch quality.
In terms of exterior looks, the Portofino has been completely redesigned with new, sharper-looking sheet-metal. The front grille and LED headlights, with its more horizontal design, looks similar to that of the GTC4Lusso. At the rear, the car features wide-spaced round tail lights to reduce the visual bulk created by the high boot-lid, designed as such to accommodate the folding hardtop. The retractable hard top roof itself is all new. Besides having a sleeker design, it’s lighter and can now be raised and lowered in 14 seconds on the move at low speeds.
The car measures in at 4,586 mm long, 1,938 mm wide and 1,318 mm tall, with a 2,670 mm long wheelbase. It weighs 1,664 kgs and has a 46:54 front to rear weight distribution ratio. Electronic controls include the new third-generation electronic rear differential (E-Diff3) that creates even more responsive steering without a trade-off in high-speed straight-line stability. The SCM-E magnetorheological dampers have been updated with the use of dual-coil technology, enhancing performance while improving bump absorption.
The Portofino draws power from the 3,855cc, 3.86-litre, turbocharged V8 engine that churns out a maximum power of 600 hp at 7,500 rpm and a peak torque of 760 Nm between 3,000 to 5,250 rpm. It complies with the CO2 emission guidelines as per the European Regulation (EC) 715/2007. This engine features Variable Boost Management, a controlling software that adjusts torque delivery to suit the gear selected. The full 760 Nm of torque will only be available in the 7th gear. The Portofino reaches a speed of 100kmph from still in 3.5 seconds, hitting 200 kmph in 10.8 seconds. It can clock a top speed of 320 kmph.
The car is brought to halt using dual-disc carbon-ceramic brakes with ABS. Other safety features include parking sensors, speed sensing auto door locks, brake assist, child safety locks, anti-pinch driver’s window, passenger airbag, side airbags, front impact beams, anti-theft alarm, pretensioners, and force limiter seatbelt etc.
The Portofino is a perfect amalgamation of superior quality, classy design, performance, and modern technologies. That said, the practicality of the car has also not been compromised; it has decent passenger space, a trunk and rear seats suitable for a short trip.
The Portofino, a new Italian grand tourer from Maranello, is Ferrari's latest and best GT vehicle. The Portofino is the epitome of high craftsmanship, elegant design, performance, and cutting-edge technology. I like the way how smoothly the Ferrari Portofino has been designed. The Portofino doesn’t look as super aggressive as the 488 Spider, but then, it is this simplicity in its curves and overall design which makes it an evergreen design. It still manages to be a true Ferrari with aerodynamically designed body panels and gapings. The 3.9 litre V8
