Porsche Cayenne

Introduction:

Porsche enjoys the racing heritage and is considered as one of the most prestigious automobile brands all across the globe well known for its advanced high power engines and flamboyant aesthetics, blended with exceptional handling. Porsche Cayenne, the luxury high power crossover, is no exception. Currently in its second generation, the car was first introduced in 2002 and ever since then the car has gained a tremendous approbation not just in Malaysia but in the entire world and has been bestowed with numerous accolades and honors including the title of “the most ideal premium luxury crossover” in 2012 conferred by AutoPacific. It debuted in Malaysia in May 2013.

Engine, mileage & variants:

Porsche Cayenne comes in 8 different variants which are powered by 3.0-litre, 3.6-litre and 4.8-litre petrol engines along with a 4.1-litre diesel engine. The car is also available in a hybrid version. The maximum power delivered across all the variants ranges from 180 kW (between 3800 to 4400 rpm) in the Cayenne diesel to a juicy 419 kW at 6000 rpm in the Cayenne Turbo S. The peak torque ranges from 550 Nm (between 1750 to 2750 rpm) to a staggering 800 Nm (between 2500 to 4000 rpm) in the diesel and Turbo S respectively. The mileage across all the variants ranges from 8.7 kmpl to 15 kmpl. The most impressive is the hybrid version which can give an outstanding mileage of 29.4 kmpl due to its electric input. The base variant can reach the 100 km/hr mark in 7.7 seconds and can attain a top speed of 230 km/hr. Move up to Cayenne Turbo S and you can reach the 100 km/hr mark from rest in a mere 4.1 seconds with a top speed of 284 km/hr which is an exceptional figure for a crossover.

Exteriors:

Cayenne has got enchanting looks all over the exteriors. The outside has got nearly everything perfectly right; from a futuristic front to sporty and dynamic side profile coupled with athletic looking rear. The air flow is directed along curves around the tail-lights and over the roof to ensure low drag coefficient. The elongated bonnet, dynamic wide chrome grille and the narrow LED tail lights add to the elegance. The car comes equipped with alloy wheels of varying sizes from 18-inch to 21-inch according to the variant. The dimensions of the car range from 4855 mm x 1939-2165 mm x 1702-1705 mm (L x W x H) and the wheelbase of the car measures 2895 mm that keeps this SUV stable on all terrains.

Interiors:

The suave cabin gives an all modern feel of a family car with comfortable seats without compromising its sporty appeal. The ergonomically designed sports seats can be adjusted in 18 different ways. The steering is a piece of art in itself with all the buttons mounted on it to minimize driver's movements. Its silver underlinings keeps the cabin fresh. The car has also been embedded with various infotainment features, the most notable of them being the 7 inch high resolution color touchscreen display that serves as an interface for navigation and audio controls. Besides that, the optional Bose Surround Sound System is available which comes with 14 high power loudspeakers and an active subwoofer the combined effect of which gives an enhanced acoustic experience and is like a paradise for audiophiles. The boot space provided in the car measures a huge 1780 litres in the Turbo S to swallow all of the luggage of the occupants.

Safety, Braking and Miscellaneous:

The signature Porsche Traction Management(PTM) and Porsche Stability Management(PSM) work in harmony to deliver an improved acceleration and traction. Another notable feature is the advanced steel spring suspension system which works with the braking system equipped with six-piston aluminum monobloc fixed brake calipers at the front and 4-piston units at the rear to ensure an effortless drive. The German automakers haven't compromised safety with high power engines and have equipped the car with plenty of safety features. The car has been incorporated with plenty of other safety features like Porsche Side Impact Protection System, Anti Theft Protection and Porsche Stability Management that ensure that the riders have a safe ride.

Verdict:

Porsche Cayenne is an aggressive crossover which you can take on a racing track and feel the thrill. The car offers that unique comfort granted by a luxury sedan and has got that sturdy exterior body of an SUV. The only glitch is it striking resemblance with its Volkswagen counterpart.
