Land Rover Range Rover Velar

The Range Rover Velar is uploaded with a truckload of features. For starters, it gets three screens – one in the instrument cluster, second in the middle of the dashboard, and the third one right below the second screen. The third screen gets two rotary dials to adjust the climate control settings, heated seats, phone connectivity or driving modes. The second screen allows you to monitor the surroundings of the car through the cameras placed on all the Velar. This screen is flush with the dashboard and can be tilted automatically as per the driver’s convenience. The instrument cluster starts up with a speedometer and a tachometer initially but is integrated with navigation, media and various other vehicle settings. This cluster can be operated by a control switch mounted on the steering wheel. The impressive thing about this switch is that it changes based on what is on the cluster screen and is equipped with capacitive touch. The headroom and the leg space are comfortable for both the row of seats. The rear row also gets their own dedicated AC vents with climate control, cup holders and two charging ports. The other creature comforts on the Velar include a sunroof, large boot space, ambient lighting, split centre armrest etc.

The Range Rover Velar looks exquisite from all sides. The architecture is similar to that of the F-Pace, but the Velar looks rather neat and beautiful. There are no unnecessary crease lines to complement the exterior. The dead straight shoulder line between the headlamps and taillights along with a sloping roofline give the Velar a prominent look on the sides. However, the oval-shaped fuel door looks a bit off considering the luxurious attributes of the Velar. One of the distinct features of this car is its door handles. They merge with the door when they are locked and pop out only when the car is unlocked. The front fascia looks stylish due to the premium LED DRL’s, chrome grille, and sleek bonnet. The Brits have tried to keep the rear end of this vehicle very simple, but the futuristic looking taillights do give away the luxurious nature of this vehicle.

The Velar gets huge windshields which improve the visibility of the driver. The driving feels incredibly well balanced as there is very little body roll plus the adaptively damped suspension on the Velar handles the bumps very well. The different driving modes on this vehicle offer an incredible driving experience on any type of terrain.  

Under the hood, the Velar packs a massive 2.0-litre, 4-cylinder engine with a twin-scroll turbocharger along with 8-speed transmission setup. This engine generates a power of 247 hp and a maximum torque of 365 Nm. The Velar goes from 0-100 kmph in 6.7 seconds and can achieve a maximum speed of 217 kmph.

Land Rover never falls back in terms of safety. The Velar is equipped with airbags on the front as well as on the sides for the front row of seats. Along with this, it gets Vehicle Stability and Control System, Anti-lock braking with EBD, traction control and brake assist. You also get parking sensors, crash sensors, tyre pressure monitor etc.

The Velar scores full marks for its subtle exterior and a range of luxurious features. It is available in three variants in the Malaysian market and the base model starts at around RM 500,000. The Velar might be a bit low on practicality than the Range Rover Sport but fills in this gap very well just by its elegant looks and comfortable handling. If you are one of those luxury SUV enthusiasts who don’t mind to spend a few bucks more for sheer luxury, then Velar is the right choice for you.
