About Land Rover Malaysia
Read MoreBetter known for its acquaintance with Range Rover, Land Rover was developed in the year 1947. The brand was the brainchild of British engineer Maurice Fernand Cary Wilks. Wilks already had a better experience at the understanding of machines as he was a major technician at Jeep, at its time of formation during WWII.
Holding the position of a Chief Engineer, Fernand developed the first-ever Land Rover as a prototype since he was not sure about the vehicle’s acceptance. The prototype vehicle developed by him had some parts of the famous Jeep. The prototype made use of chassis and suspension in its performance. However, it was only used for transportation and for carrying groceries before its patent.
The brand Land Rover came into existence in the year 1948 and has been successful in creating an image for itself ever-since. With the progress in its production, the brand was able to spread its production. However, the company went through a bad phase in 1975. The incident then forced the brand to part ways and later, was rebranded under the name ‘Land Rover Leyland Group’.
The very first car that was launched by the brand amidst its own story of ups and downs was the first officially-produced Land Rover, known as the Land Rover Series I. With the success of their first model, the brand then introduced the world to the Land Rover Series II and Land Rover Series II-A in the year 1967. It was during that time frame when Land Rover went under collaboration with the British Leyland company and was named Rover Triumph.
As we know, Land Rover has its own history in terms of its series of undertakings. The brand went from the British Leyland to BMW but it was in the year 2008 when Land Rover finally sold its company to the Indian carmaker Tata.
Sime Darby Motors joined hands with Sisima Auto Sdn Bhd and became the official distributor of the Jaguar and Land Rover models in Malaysia since 2004. The current lineup of Jaguar offers five new car models. The Land Rover Discovery, Land Rover Sports, Velar, Discovery, and Evoque are the cars and are known to be chart-toppers in their respective car segments.
