Overview

The Jaguar Land Rover automotive company was founded in 2008 before which Jaguar and Land Rover existed as two separate units. This was when Indian giant Tata Motors acquired it from Ford and the company has been fairing exceeding well ever since. Its marquee brand Land Rover has a range of SUVs in its line up and one of them is the Land Rover Range Rover Sport. The Range Rover Sport as such is a typical mean machine that is ready to take on any sort of driving conditions without any trouble and is the epitome of SUVs for people who seek an adventure filled all-muscle driving experience. It comes in three HSE engine variants with one diesel and two petrol engines. The diesel variant is a 3.0-litre SDV6 engine with a power of 292 PS whereas the petrol engines are a 3.0-litre supercharged V6 and a mammoth 5.0-litre supercharged V8 that offer a staggering power of 340 PS and 510 PS respectively. With these engines, the Range Rover Sport is all set to perform better than its competitors by a huge margin. Land Rover Range Rover a Mid Size Luxury SUV with four wheel drive that was launched in 2005 and is presently in its second generation. The styling of the Sport is also done in a more aggressive pattern than the elegant Range Rover. The front bumpers look dominating and the straight line running along the sides, starting right from the headlamps and running all the way to the rear lamps gives it a strikingly muscular look. The single piece tail lamps, aggressive jaw like front bumper and the side vents above the front fenders distinguish it from its big brother, the Range Rover imparting it a sporty and aggressive feel. The interiors are also installed keeping in mind the Sport badge and a 3rd row of seat is also added to increase the passenger occupancy in contradiction with the Range Rover's two row seating making it the choice for people who desire more seats. The interiors are amazingly luxurious too which is not surprising in a Land Rover due to its dedication towards maintaining the quality.

Interior & Features

The interiors of the Range Rover Sport are luxurious as well as functional. The dash looks astonishingly gracious with the leather-chrome combination and the 12.3-inch driver display with an 8-inch touch screen that offers dual view. The steering wheel has leather padding on it giving it a regal look along with the cluster of buttons that makes it functional as well. The seats are roomy and comfortable as well as at an appropriate height giving a command driving position to the driver. The central floor console is very broad and has buttons placed on it freely, making them easily accessible. The leather and seats can be chosen from a wide range of options provided by Land Rover to meet your taste and give you an everlasting experience in the car. To add to the touch of luxury, the front door tread plates are illuminated and carrying the Range Rover name on it along with interior mood lighting.

Interior Comfort:

Range rover sport has left no stone unturned in offering exceptional ride comfort to the occupants. The 3 row seating are equipped with comfortable 14/14 way adjustable leather seats that makes sure you get your preferred angle of the seat. The rear seats are 60:40 foldable providing easy access to the third row as well as luggage. The Air conditioning is automatic 3-zone climate control that gives ambient cooling to all the three rows. The paddle shift and 12.3-inch display behind the power adjustable steering wheel instead of the dial enables crystal clear visuals of all that's happening under the hood. Apart from this there are front and rear cup holders, door pockets with sufficient storage capacity and a glove box that provides for secured stowage.

Interior Measurements:

There is no lack of space in any of the three rows in the Sport with ample leg and head room to all. The boot space is also a sumptuous 784-litres with the rear seats up, whereas with the rear seats down it is a huge 1761-litres that could gulp in almost all of our luggage requirements.

Stereo and Accessories:

There is no lack of entertainment features in the Range rover Sport. To fill the cabin with crisp beats, the 5.0-litre V8 variant comes with an 8-speaker 380 W Hi-Line sound system which can be upgraded to an amazing 19 speaker 820 W Meridian system that comes as an optional. The centre console has an 8-inch touchscreen display with dual view enabling the driver and front passenger to view two entirely different things at the same time. The rear row also get two screens fitted behind the front seats to keep the occupants entertained. The system is compatible with USB, Bluetooth, AUX, Radio, MP3 and CD/DVD. It also comes with a voice control that recognizes the voices of different individuals.

Exterior

Straight lines and minimalistic curves is the philosophy behind the Range Rover Sport alongside some aggressive looking features like the black front bumper and the aluminum underlined black rear bumpers with two chrome tail pipes. The shape of the Sport makes it appear like it's in motion even when at rest, despite it's big dimensions. The adaptive xenon head lamps with signature styling, can easily pass as the streamlined eyes of the car where as the single LED rear light emphasizes its minimalistic design. The front grille dominates the entire body with its iconic style and aluminum look. The side vent behind the front fender also accentuates the elegance of the Range Rover Sport. Overall, with shorter dimensions than the Range Rover, the Range Rover sport looks like its sporty younger sibling with much more aggression and agility along with increased functionality due to shorter turning radius. The ground clearance is also high enough to cruise through rocks and boulders which can be increased even more when going off the road by the adaptive suspensions. The wing mirrors have approach lighting and auto reverse dipping that provides extra comfort and safety to the vehicle. Front fog lamps on the air curtain mesh adds that extra touch to the cars overall aura. Overall, Land Rover Range Rover Sport is an aggressive mean beast on the road, which is all about muscle power.

Exterior Measurements:

Despite being an SUV, the sport has not compromised with the aerodynamics of the vehicle, thereby keeping the height comparatively low. The overall dimensions are 4850 mm x 2073 mm x 1780 mm (L x W x H) along with a wheelbase measuring 2923 mm which provide for typical SUV operations along with better aerodynamics.

Wheels:

The standard wheels in the Sport are 20 inch alloy rims with 5 split-spoke styling. The tyre dimensions on the 20-inch wheels are 255/50 R20. As an optional 21 and 22 inch alloy rims are made available in Range Rover.

Mileage Running Cost

The sport falls back a step when it comes to fuel efficiency. Although a powerful engine requires more fuel but the efficiency could have been better, even keeping under consideration the size of this beast. The 5.0-litre V8 gets an efficiency of just 7.24 kmpl whereas the 3.0-litre V6 diesel and petrol engine offer a decent at best fuel economy measuring 13.33 kmpl and 8.84kmpl respectively.

Engine & Fuel Consumption

With 3 HSE engine variants available, Range rover Sport has something for all. The SDV6 3.0-litre diesel engine provides with improved fuel efficiency but lacks on power with 292 PS at 4000 rpm and a max torque of a massive 600 Nm at 2000 rpm. The 3.0-litre V6 supercharged petrol however packs a punch with 340 PS at 6500 rpm and a relatively low max torque of 450Nm between 3500 to 5000 rpm. However, the engine that beats them all is the majestic 5.0-litre Supercharged V8 that offers a massive 510 PS between 6000 to 6500 rpm along with a superior max torque of 625 Nm between 2500 to 5500 rpm. This is the one to go for, if the true power of the Sport is to be unleashed. The transmission on all the variants is an 8-speed automatic pedal shift that also has a manual mode.

Power:

Range Rover Sport sports a humongous 5.0-litre supercharged V8 engine that churns out a massive 510 PS maximum power output between 6000 to 6500 rpm alongside a maximum torque output of 625 Nm between 2500 to 5500 rpm. The other two engines are also high on power with the 3.0-litre V6 diesel offering 292 PS at 4000 rpm alongside a maximum starting torque measuring 600 Nm at 2000 rpm. As such, the 3.0-litre supercharged V6 petrol offering 340 PS at 6500 rpm with a max torque of 450 Nm at 3500 to 5000 rpm.

Acceleration and Pick up:

The Sport is exceptionally fast for such a heavy SUV, all thanks to the engine borrowed from Jaguar that offers phenomenal agility to it. The 5.0-litre V8 touches the 100 kmph mark from naught in a blazing fast 5.3 seconds along with a top speed of 225 kmph.

These figures drop down a little for the 3.0-litre diesel variant which touches the same milestone in approximately 7.2 seconds touching a top speed of 210 kmph.

Braking & Safety

To halt the Range rover Sport, both the front and rear wheels get ventilated type disc brakes with disc diameter of 380mm and 365mm respectively. These efficient brakes are complimented with ABS, EBA, EBD, HDC (Hill descent control) and CBC (Cornering brake control). These electronics makes up for efficient braking without stressing the driver. To improve the handling, it comes with Electronic cross Linked Air suspension with automatic load leveling and four corner air suspension that makes it extra stable and easy to turn on corners and turns.

Safety and Security:

Range Rover Sport comes with many safety features apart from the standard ABS, EBD and airbags, like blind spot monitoring, auto lock and crash unlocking, adjustable speed limiter device and power operated child locks. The airbags are for side, seat-front, thorax and Pelvis to protect you from every possible direction. The Roll stability control, Hill descent control and electronic traction control prevents the vehicle from toppling around turns and steep descents. The parallel and perpendicular park assist identifies parking spaces and parks the car automatically. It also has surround cameras that provides an overall look of the cars surroundings, keeping it safe from unseen obstacles.
