2020 Renault Espace receives modest updates; to launch in Europe

KUALA LUMPUR: Renault, the French multinational automaker, has updated its flagship model, Espace with new technology and safety features. Along with the technical upgrades, the model also gets subtle tweaks in terms of its aesthetic. With all of these changes - the 2020 Renault Espace will be launched in Europe next year spring.

Speaking of the changes, the exterior gets new LED Matrix adaptive headlights along with C-shaped DRLs as well as redesigned LED taillights. However, the shape of the bumper remains the same, but the inserts have been revamped with a new chrome strip that expands across the entire bumper. Moreover, the range-topping Initiale Paris variant also gets new wheels, a new front end, and a revised rear bumper with a new skid plate.

The 2020 Renault Espace also receives prominent updates inside it. The flowing centre console is now replaced with a closed storage area, which comes with a pair of USB ports and two cup holders. The infotainment system now has a 9.3-inch touchscreen display and operates on the latest Easy Connect interface. Another change is a new customisable 10.2-inch digital instrument display, which gets a 3D navigation screen.

Pertaining to the oily bits, 2020 Espace gets three options, including one petrol and two diesel that meet WLTP standard. The model comes with the 1.8-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine, which churns out a maximum power of 222 hp. Additionally, it also gets two 2.0-litre diesel engines that push out a maximum power of 158 hp and 197 hp.

The safety features now include a Level 2 automated driving system including, Stop & Go function. The system also includes Rear Cross Traffic Alert, Advanced Park Assist, Active Emergency Braking, and more.

In addition to these, the chassis of the 2020 Renault Espace facelift now supports Renault’s 4Control all-wheel steering combined with adaptive dampers and three driving modes - Eco, Comfort, and Sport.
