Here’s the first official look at the 2022 Formula 1 car

KUALA LUMPUR: With brand new regulations aimed to spruce up the action on the racing track, the revolutionary Formula 1 coming in 2022. And, here comes the first-ever glimpse of the full-size 2022 Formula 1 car. The car featuring multiple cosmetic and technical changes was recently showcased at the Silverstone Circuit in the UK. It is a base model around which the different teams will create their own 2022 racing cars.

The new F1 car has been specially designed to allow closer racing with the potential for more overtakes. In the previous version, the F1 cars' aerodynamic add-ons had a negative impact on the quality of racing. The intricate winglets of the bodywork used to create a stream of dirty air leading to harder overtakes. Well, for the 2022 season, there are new aerodynamic regulations to reduce this dirty air.

Two new striking features of the 2022 F1 car are over-wheel winglets and wheel covers; the latter were last seen in 2009. The winglets will help in controlling the front tyres’ wake and will direct it away from the wing located at the rear. However, the wheel covers may help in increasing the car’s downforce by sending airflow through the wheels.

The 2022 Formula 1 car will also have Pirelli 18-inch wheels with low-profile tyres for the first time. These are designed to reduce the tyres overheat at the time of sliding. This will also be helpful in closer racing.

Some of the other significant inclusions are:

  • Redesigned front wing for consistent downforce
  • An aero feature from the 70s
  • New rolled tips for rear wings
  • New floor shape using ground effect for more downforce

On the power front, the 2022 Formula 1 retains the current 1.6-litre turbo-hybrid unit, which is not a bad thing. Although it gets some more standard components in the fuel system and some additional sensors for better monitoring. And, if we talk about safety, things have been improved to make the sport even safer.
