Toyota Yaris Cross bookings open in Malaysia - Two variants, est. price RM 99,900

KUALA LUMPUR: After teasing the model last week, UMW Toyota has now started accepting orders for its upcoming compact SUV, the Yaris Cross. The automaker made the announcement through a social media post earlier today, which also revealed that the SUV will be available in both ICE and hybrid variants. 

The Toyota Yaris Cross made its ASEAN debut in Indonesia back in 2023 and is unrelated to the SUV with the same name offered in other markets, including Europe, Japan, and Australia.

Two variants on offer 

UMW Toyota offers the Yaris Cross in two variants - 1.5 S and Hybrid Electric. The estimated pricing is as follows -

Twin to the Perodua Traz

The upcoming Yaris Cross is the twin of the Perodua Traz that went on sale in Malaysia late last year. Both SUVs are based on the Daihatsu New Global Architecture (DNGA) platform, with a focus on durability, practicality, and cost efficiency. 

Both measure 4,310 mm in length, 1,770 mm in width and have the same wheelbase of 2,525 mm. However, in terms of height, the Yaris Cross is 40 mm shorter than the 1,655 mm tall Perodua SUV.

Petrol and Hybrid drivetrain options 

As mentioned above, there are two drivetrain options available for the new Toyota SUV. While the automaker has not dropped official specifications for Malaysia, here’s a look at the Indonesia-spec model for reference -

The petrol variant comes with a five-year, unlimited mileage warranty, while the hybrid gets an eight-year hybrid warranty covering the battery, inverter and power management ECU.
