2022 GWM Ora Good Cat in Malaysia: All you need to know

It was only yesterday that Great Wall Motors (GWM) announced its arrival in the Malaysian market. The cars that’ll initially make it to the GWM lineup are the Ora Good Cat, the Poer P12, and the Poer P11. The automaker has opened up booking for all three cars and today we’ll be discussing the cute-looking, all-electric Ora Good Cat hatch in detail.

The Ora Good Cat will be available in four variant options - Tech, Pro, Ultra, and Ultra G. That’s one variant more than the Thai-spec model, where the buyers miss out on the range-topping Ultra G variant.

The actual prices are expected to be revealed with the car’s official launch in Malaysia, however, compared to the Thai-spec model it will be cheaper than ours because of the tax and duty reduction.

Great Wall Motors Ora Good Cat: Powertrain

All the four Ora Good Cat variants are powered by an electric motor generating maximum power of 143 PS along with a peak torque of 210 Nm. The drive is sent to the front wheels in all the models. Also, part of the powertrain kit is one-pedal driving and five drive modes namely Normal, Eco, Eco+, Sport, and Auto. The EV can attain a top speed of 152 kmph.

As for the Tech and Pro variants, they feature a 47.8 kWh lithium iron phosphate battery offering a range of up to 400 km (NEDC standard). The Ultra variant with a more substantial 63.1 kWh lithium battery offers a range of 500 km.

Though the Ultra and Ultra G trim share the same charging kit as the Tech and Pro, the difference lies in the charging time. For instance, the AC charging takes just an hour to fully charge the battery and 0 to 80% SoC is achieved in about 40 minutes.

GWM is yet to provide information on the EVs charging setup, however, we do know for a fact that its charging time will tally with the Thai-spec model.

Meaning, that the latest all-electric hatch with AC charging and at the vehicle’s maximum supported 6.6 kW input will get fully charged in eight hours. On the other hand, a DC fast charger at 60 kW gets the battery fueled from 0 to 80% in just 46 minutes.

The braking here is taken care of by a ventilated disc brake at the front and a disc brake at the rear. A smooth drive is ensured by MacPherson Independent suspension at the front and Vertical Arm Torsion Beam at the rear.

Tech: Active air intake front grille, intelligent LED headlamps, follow me home system, daytime running light, an LED taillight, rear fog lamp, and electrically adjustable ORVM with turn signals.

Pro: Over and above the Tech trim, this one gets auto-on-off headlamps, electrically adjustable & folding ORVM with turn signals.

Ultra & Ultra G: As an add-on, the two get ORVM with memory and a headlamp with a welcome light effect.
