2022 Kia Stinger Scorpion special edition debuts in the US

KUALA LUMPUR: Back in March, Kia pulled the wraps off the new 2022 Stinger in the US market. At that time, it detailed its three versions - GT-Line, GT1, and GT2 and announced a special Scorpion edition to come up at a later date. So, here we have the new Stinger Scorpion in front of us. Basically, it is an appearance package available on the GT2 RWD and AWD variants that means no more power upgrade in the new lineup.

Kia offers the new trim in limited numbers i.e. 250 units per month. Colour choices include - Snow White Pearl, Aurora Black, and Ceramic Silver. 

“Stinger was a wake-up call to a segment long populated by European sport sedans when it debuted in 2017 (as a 2018 model). It redefined what enthusiast drivers thought about Kia and proved we could compete against the best vehicles in a hotly contested space,” said Sean Yoon, president & CEO, Kia North America and Kia America. “Since then, Stinger has built a loyal following of those looking for something unique and the Scorpion is set to continue that approach.”

Key highlights of the new Stinger Scorpion edition are -

• Exclusive black finishing on the front fender and side mirror caps
• Darkened exhaust tips
• Newly designed body-colored rear spoiler
• Unique 19-inch black wheels
• Carbon fiber trimmings inside the cockpit
• Red Nappa Leather or Black Nappa Leather interior

Under the hood, the sportier Stinger carries the 3.3-litre twin-turbo V6 engine as it is based on the top-spec GT2. The engine generates a maximum power output of 368 hp and a peak torque of 508 Nm, thus enabling the sedan to cover 0 to 100 kmph run in just 4.7 seconds. It is available in rear-wheel drive as well as all-wheel drive formats.

Built exclusively for the U.S. market, the Scorpion Special Edition is priced at $52,585 (RM 217,056) for RWD and $54,785 (RM 226,137) for AWD. The mentioned prices exclude destination charges.
