KUALA LUMPUR: Mitsubishi ASX has been around since 2010, and the subcompact crossover is due to receive a complete overhaul. The next-gen 2023 ASX is scheduled to arrive in Europe at the beginning of 2023, and it will be manufactured by Renault at its Spain located Valladolid plant.

KEY TAKEAWAYS

  • 2023 Mitsubishi ASX powertrain details?

The upcoming ASX is expected to arrive in several powertrains including petrol, diesel, HEV, and PHEV options.
  • Which car will the 2023 ASX replace on arrival?

On arrival, the 2023 Mitsubishi ASX will replace the long-running 2010 ASX model in production.
  • The all-new 2023 Mitsubishi ASX will benefit from the Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi Alliance's CMF-B platform. It is expected to be a rebadged Renault Captur, with the details still not exactly clear. However, the next-gen model is expected to get several powertrains, including a hybrid and plug-in hybrid. Thus, making the upcoming ASX the third Mitsubishi SUV to come with PHEV technology, the first two being Eclipse Cross and Outlander PHEV.

The 2023 ASX will get conventional internal-combustion engines, apart from the HEV and PHEV powertrains. The entry-level model, for instance, will be powered by a 1.0-litre three-cylinder petrol engine making 91 hp of power. The mill here is paired with a 6-speed manual gearbox. Also, part of the kit is a 1.3-litre four-cyl making 140 hp coupled with a 6-speed manual or 158 hp when paired with a 7-speed, dual-clutch automatic gearbox.

As for the hybrid powertrain, the 2023 ASX will get a naturally-aspirated 1.6-litre petrol mill with an e-motor generating a combined power output of 145 hp. The most powerful ASX variant, on the other hand, is expected to be the PHEV model with a 160hp generating 1.6-litre engine with an e-motor.

"The SUV format continues to grow in popularity in Europe, and with Plug-in Hybrids becoming mainstream, we are set to build on that heritage with the next generation ASX. We are looking forward to offering our current and future customers a highly competitive new addition to our line-up," said Mitsubishi Motors Europe President & CEO Frank Krol.

On arrival, the 2023 Mitsubishi ASX will replace the long-running 2010 ASX model in production! With such a long life span, the ASX has become the brand's most successful model, with nearly 380,000 units sold to date.

Will the 2023 Mitsubishi ASX be as successful a model as the previous-gen model? What do you think? Let us know in the comments.
