Bentley Bentayga creates the record for being the fastest SUV at the Pikes Peak

KUALA LUMPUR: Records are meant to be broken and the Bentley Bentayga has done the same in style. The car set the record for being the fastest SUV at the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb. Behind the wheels of the Bentley was Rhys Millen, who is a two-time champion.

The record statement reads that the Bentley Bentayga completed 19.99 kilometres in just a mere 10:49.9 seconds. This is almost two minutes quicker than the previous record and Rhys Millen did it by averaging at 107 kmph.

The track on which the Bentley Bentayga created the record was 19.99 km long (as mentioned above) and climbed up to an altitude of 5,000 feet which had a total of 156 corners. Wondering what made the car achieve this record? It's the W12 engine which makes a humongous 600 hp of power and a monstrous 900 Nm of torque. Plus, the adaptive air suspension and the electric 48V anti-roll assist control made it more secure in such dangerous condition.

Bentley made minor changes in the production version of the car in order to comply with the Pikes Peak standards. These minor changes include the replacement of the front seats with racing ones while the rear ones were removed. A fire suppression system and a roll cage had also been installed. Some other changes made were the inclusion of Akrapovic and Pirelli's DOT-marked tyre range.

Aesthetically, the Pikes Peak version of the Bentley Bentayga is the standard car with some exterior enhancements like a carbon fibre body kit along with company’s black specification, Radium satin paint job, and some black chrome inserts.

On an ending note, in order to celebrate the record at the Pikes Peak, Bentley announced that it would bring out the special (but limited) edition of the Bentayga. However, this Pikes Peak Bentayga would be limited to just ten units. Booking for this limited edition would commence from August for customers in the United Kingdom and the United States.
