Chery Malaysia is taking Tiggo 9 registrations — here's what to expect from the premium SUV

KUALA LUMPUR: Chery Malaysia is taking registrations for the Tiggo 9, and on paper at least, this one's shaping up to be one of the more seriously spec'd premium SUVs to land in the market this year.

Power comes from a 2.0T AWD powertrain paired with seven driving modes, so whether you're crawling through KL traffic or pushing it on the highway, the car's supposed to handle it without fuss.

AWD in this segment isn't a given, so that's worth noting — especially if you're the type who occasionally ventures beyond the usual tarmac.

It sits on 20-inch alloys, which gives it a fairly commanding stance, and the interior gets a 15.6-inch 2.5K display running on the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8155 — the same chip you'd find in flagship phones not too long ago. In practice, that means the infotainment should actually be responsive rather than the sluggish experience you get in some rivals.

Inside, both front and rear passengers get massaging and ventilated seats, which is still a proper flex at this price point and not something every competitor bothers with for second-row occupants. There's also a head-up display for the driver, plus a fully adjustable driver's seat if you're particular about your seating position.

Audio is handled by a Sony 14-speaker system, complete with headrest speakers for the rear — so even back-seat passengers get a decent listening experience rather than an afterthought. On safety, Chery has packed in 10 airbags alongside 23 ADAS features, which covers most of what you'd want from a modern driver assistance setup.
