TQ Wuling Porta EV launched in Malaysia – From RM99,800, up to 400 km range and 1-tonne payload

KUALA LUMPUR: TQ Wuling has officially launched the new Porta EV in Malaysia, and this time, the company is going after the commercial vehicle market.

KEY TAKEAWAYS

  • How much is the TQ Wuling Porta EV in Malaysia?

The TQ Wuling Porta EV starts at an estimated RM99,800 for the 300KM variant, while the 400KM version costs RM105,800 in Peninsular Malaysia. East Malaysia prices are RM102,800 (estimated) and RM108,800 respectively. Prices exclude insurance.
  • What is the driving range of the TQ Wuling Porta EV?

The Porta EV offers a claimed driving range of 300 km or 400 km depending on the variant. Both figures are based on the CLTC testing cycle, and real-world range may vary.
  • The Porta EV is a fully electric panel van designed for commercial use, offering up to 400 km of claimed driving range, 6.5 cubic metres of cargo space and the ability to carry more than a tonne of goods.

There are two variants available, the Porta EV 300KM and 400KM, with prices starting from an estimated RM99,800 for the former. The longer-range 400KM version is priced at RM105,800.

For East Malaysia, prices are slightly higher at an estimated RM102,800 and RM108,800 respectively. All prices are on-the-road for company commercial registration, excluding insurance.

Interestingly, there's only a RM6,000 difference between the two versions, which might make the larger-battery model more appealing to businesses looking for a bit more flexibility in their daily operations.

A proper-sized commercial van with plenty of cargo space

At 5,010 mm long, 1,800 mm wide and with a 3,050 mm wheelbase, the Porta EV is a fairly sizeable van. It's also designed from the ground up as a commercial vehicle, rather than being a passenger vehicle with its rear seats removed.

The cargo compartment measures 2,830 mm in length, 1,680 mm in width and 1,365 mm in height. That translates to 6.5 cubic metres of storage space, which should accommodate a fair amount of goods, whether it's for courier services, deliveries or general business use.

There's also a difference in payload capacity between the two variants. The smaller-battery 300KM version can carry up to 1,165 kg, while the heavier 400KM version is rated for 1,105 kg.

Loading and unloading should be relatively straightforward too. The Porta EV gets sliding doors on both sides, 270-degree opening rear barn doors and a loading height of just 595 mm. The rear opening is also wide enough to accommodate a standard 1,100 mm by 1,100 mm pallet, with Wuling saying the cargo compartment can be accessed directly by a forklift.

The van uses a monocoque body structure made up of 83% ultra-high-strength steel.

102 PS electric motor, rear-wheel drive and up to 400 km range

Both versions of the Porta EV share the same electric motor, producing 102 PS (75 kW) and 180 Nm of torque. Power is sent to the rear wheels, while top speed is limited to 115 km/h.

Not exactly figures that will set the world on fire, but this is a working van after all. The more important part is having enough pulling power when fully loaded, particularly in stop-start traffic and urban deliveries.

As for the batteries, the entry-level 300KM gets a 41.9 kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery, providing a claimed 300 km of range. The 400KM version uses a larger 56.2 kWh battery, extending the claimed range to 400 km.

It's worth pointing out that both figures are based on the Chinese CLTC testing cycle, which tends to be rather optimistic. Actual range will depend on driving conditions, speed, cargo weight and other factors.

Both versions support AC and DC charging through a CCS2 connection. Interestingly, the larger-battery 400KM is actually quoted as charging faster on DC power, taking just 20 minutes to go from 30% to 80%. The 300KM version requires 30 minutes for the same charging window.

Using AC charging, the respective 20% to 80% charging times are 5.15 hours and 6.75 hours.

The Porta EV also uses Wuling's MAGIC Battery technology, which the company says allows individual battery cells to be repaired or replaced when necessary. According to Wuling, this modular design could reduce battery repair and maintenance costs by up to 90% over the vehicle's lifetime.

Basic interior, but gets the essentials

Being a commercial van, don't expect anything particularly luxurious inside the Porta EV. The cabin is built around getting the job done, with seating for two occupants and fabric upholstery.

Still, it's not completely bare. There's an 8-inch infotainment screen with Bluetooth and USB connectivity, a 3.5-inch TFT instrument display, electronic air-conditioning and a multifunction steering wheel. The seats are manually adjustable, while the steering wheel offers two-way adjustment.

Both variants also come with a reversing camera and rear parking sensors, which should come in handy given the van's size.

On the safety side, the Porta EV gets two front airbags, ABS, electronic brakeforce distribution, electronic stability control, traction control, hill start assist and brake assist. A low-speed pedestrian warning system is also included.

There are no advanced driver assistance features listed, so things like autonomous emergency braking and adaptive cruise control aren't part of the package.

Wuling claims maintenance savings of over 65% compared to diesel vans

One of the main arguments for switching to an electric commercial van is potentially lower running costs, and TQ Wuling is making that a big part of the Porta EV's appeal.

According to the company, scheduled servicing over five years should cost less than RM2,000, representing potential savings of more than 65% compared to a conventional diesel van.

Servicing is required every six months or 10,000 km, whichever comes first.

Of course, whether an electric van actually saves a business money will depend on how it's used. A company operating fixed daily delivery routes and charging its vehicles overnight at its own premises is likely to have a different experience from one covering long distances and relying on public charging facilities.

As for warranty coverage, TQ Wuling provides five years or 120,000 km for the vehicle, five years or 200,000 km for the drive motor, EV battery and battery management system, and six years or 300,000 km for the battery cells.

Aftersales support will be handled through Tan Chong Express Auto Servis (TCEAS), with 28 service centres nationwide trained to maintain TQ Wuling vehicles.

Bookings open, with free chargers for early buyers

Bookings for the TQ Wuling Porta EV are now open, requiring a RM500 booking fee.

Customers who book during the promotional period will receive a free 7 kW wallbox charger worth RM3,500, a portable three-pin EV charger and free scheduled maintenance for three years or 60,000 km.

For those interested in seeing the van in person, TQ Wuling will be displaying the Porta EV at selected showrooms nationwide on 17 and 18 October 2026.

At around RM100,000, the Porta EV certainly presents an interesting alternative for businesses considering an electric commercial vehicle. It's got the cargo capacity and payload to handle proper delivery work, while the electric drivetrain could potentially reduce day-to-day operating expenses.

But whether it makes financial sense over a conventional diesel van will ultimately depend on how much ground it covers each day, how heavily it's loaded and how conveniently it can be charged.

For businesses with predictable delivery routes and access to overnight charging, though, the Porta EV might be worth a closer look.
