Brain Controlled Car: First of its Kind Unveiled by Chinese Researchers

Kuala Lumpur: Have you ever dreamed of a car that is fully controlled by your brain? If yes, then there is a good news for you. Your dream has been turned into a reality by the Chinese researchers who recently unveiled a brain-controlled car in Tianjin – one of the five national central cities of China.

As reported by the China Central Television (CCTV), a team of researchers of the Nankai University has developed a working mule to demonstrate this revolutionary technology, which has been developed in association with the automaker Great Wall Motor. The researchers have turned a Haval H9 SUV into a fully brain-controlled vehicle that can move forward, backward, and even stop by the directions given by your brain waves. The mind-controlled car is driven completely from the rear seat and you can also lock and unlock it through your mind waves without your hands or legs.

The technology of brain-controlled car has been developed with the help of a computer, a signal capture device and a dedicated software. The signal capture device is to be worn by the driver and it consists sixteen sensors that capture electroencephalogram (EEG) signals from the driver's brain. The EEG signals are processed by a dedicated computer software which picks up the given signals and translates them, so that the car could be controlled by the driver's brain.

The Chinese researchers explained that the signals are processed by the computer software which classifies and recognises the intention of the driver and then translates them into commands to control the car. Obviously, the system of this mind-controlled car is safe from the effects of the absence of mind because the concentration is only required to change the moving status of the car, for example, tuning the car into another direction or changing the lane.

According to CCTV, the researchers have said that the concept of the mind-controlled car has a great potential for drivers with special requirements like the physically challenged drivers. It's also capable of offering normal drivers a revolutionary intellectual driving mode.

Currently, the working mule has been trailed to drive into a straight direction and not going into production any time soon.
