Cadillac’s upcoming Le Mans race car teased

KUALA LUMPUR: Cadillac is not new to the whole racing senario. The automaker has a strong presence in IMSA and has to its credit the 2021 WeatherTech DPi Manufacturer Championship title. While the carmaker is also fighting for the 2022 title, it is also preparing for more lofty goals. However, in order to achieve that it needs a race car and that’s what Cadillac's latest teaser shows.

Called the Project GTP, this particular race car would compete at the one to the toughest races of all times, the 24 Hours of Le Mans. Scheduled for 2024, before participating in the granddaddy of all races, this 4th-gen Cadillac prototype will make its racing debut at the Rolex 24 of Daytona.

Coming back to the official teaser images it counts as our first look at Cadillac’s upcoming race car. Developed by Cadillac Racing and Design with race car manufacturer Dallara also on board, the race car utilizes a hybrid system making it fit to compete in the new Grand Touring Prototype (GTP) category.

Cadillac is yet to share any technical and mechanical specifications, however, we do know that the new powertrain package will fuse with the GTP common hybrid system.

As for its design language, Cadillac’s lead exterior creative designer, Chris Mikalauskas said, "While the new race car will take into account IMSA and ACO regulations, Cadillac’s brand characteristics will be instantly recognizable, many of which are seen on our V-Series vehicles today."

He further added, “It will artistically combine form and function to influence the development of the forthcoming race car. Elements of Cadillac's brand DNA, such as vertical lighting and floating blades, will be present throughout."

Cadillac’s Project GTP will make its official debut later this year and if everything goes according to plan it will mark the automaker’s return to Le Mans after a good 21 years.
