Ford Focus will be discontinued in 2025

KUALA LUMPUR: It was only in April that the last Ford Mondeo was assembled at the automaker’s Valencia plant. The five-seater sedan’s life came to an end after a good run of five generations spread over three decades of production. And now we hear another Ford model whose life cycle will soon come to an end.

As per Automobilwoche (Automotive News Europe’s sister magazine), Ford will cut down the Focus production after Aug 29, 2022, with the model getting discontinued altogether in 2025. The reason it says is the shift towards crossover over traditional body styles. The news was also confirmed by Ford Europe’s head honcho, Stuart Rowley.

All this makes the facelifted Mk4 the last of the breed, as Ford has no plans to revive the once hugely popular badge in the EV arena. It also puts a question on the future of the automaker’s Germany-based Saarlouis plant, as Ford has not yet found a reason to keep the factory functional following the Focus termination in three years’ time. Also, the automaker has confirmed a ‘significant job cut at the plant that currently employs over 4500 workers.

However, things work a bit differently in China where both the Focus and Mondeo recently entered a new generation. Thus confirming the two models' availability for a long time in the People’s Republic.

At the global level, however, Ford is struggling with the Focus delivery as the car has been hit hard by the supply shortages. The SYNC4 infotainment system installed in it is manufactured in war-torn Ukraine, causing major delays.
