Ford's sat-nav Breadcrumbs help off-roaders find a way back home
KUALA LUMPUR: If you're also one of the many off-road devotees out there, you must have found yourself lost in the wild at least once. There is quite a bit of fun in exploring the trails. However, getting lost and not being able to find a way back home is something that you'd certainly don't want happening to you. Now, in order to make life easier for off-road enthusiasts, Ford has equipped some of its vehicles a new tech that will help them reach back to the starting point without a fuss.
With the newest Breadcrumbs tech, Ford vehicles with the SYNC® 3 system keep dropping a "virtual pin" every second while on route. At last, when the driver wants to go back to the starting point, the tech presents him/her with a path formed with the help of the "virtual pins". “When enabled in the SYNC® 3 navigation settings, the Breadcrumbs feature works in the background to drop a virtual pin every second while out on the trail. When drivers need to return to the road, the feature provides them with a guide to get back to their starting point – without the stress of relocating landmarks,” said Ford.
Also, to make the off-roading experience even more engaging and exciting Ford is offering additional stuff like a levelling kit, electronic locking rear differential, Terrain Management System with Trail Control, and a winch-capable front bumper. "Based on satellite technology, the Satnav Breadcrumbs feature is included in Ranger’s navigation system and is available on XLT and Lariat series trucks. Breadcrumbs is also available on other Built Ford Tough trucks equipped with SYNC 3 and navigation technology", cited Ford.
Speaking of the Ford Ranger for Malaysia, the American pickup truck comes with two different engine options. The first one is a 2.2-litre inline-four with Variable Geometry Turbo mill making 160 PS at 3,200 rpm and 385 Nm at from 1,600-2,600 revs. The other engine, on the other hand, is a 2.0-litre Si-turbo inline-four diesel-fed motor with VGT generating 180 PS at 3,500 rpm and 420 Nm between 1,750 - 2,500 revs. There is also the Ford Ranger Raptor for the Malaysian masses with a bi-turbo 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine that is capable of producing 213 PS and 500 Nm. This bi-turbo sends the power to the wheels via a 10-speed automatic gearbox that comes equipped with paddle shifters.
For now, Ford has rolled out the Breadcrumbs tech for some selected models, while other vehicles by the blue oval brand will receive the tech shortly.
