Hyundai Motor Malaysia, EON team up again, new Klang Valley and Penang outlets due H1 2026

KUALA LUMPUR: Hyundai Motor Malaysia and Edaran Otomobil Nasional Berhad (EON) have signed a Letter of Intent (LOI) that signals the start of a renewed partnership, with the immediate goal of growing Hyundai’s retail presence in Malaysia.

KEY TAKEAWAYS

  • When will the new Hyundai dealerships open in Malaysia?

Hyundai Motor Malaysia and EON are targeting the first half of 2026 for the Klang Valley and Penang outlets.
  • Where will the new Hyundai dealerships be located?

Two locations are planned, one in Klang Valley and one in Penang, under the LOI between Hyundai Motor Malaysia and EON.
  • The LOI sets out plans for two new Hyundai dealerships, one in the Klang Valley and another in Penang, both targeted to open in the first half of 2026. Hyundai and EON say these areas were picked due to demand, growing customer interest, and a noticeable rise in hybrid adoption, which makes them priority regions as Hyundai expands its line-up.

For Hyundai, the pitch is straightforward, get more sales and aftersales points closer to where the customers are, and make ownership feel less “far away”, especially for those who place a lot of weight on service support and convenience. The company also frames it as part of a longer-term effort to strengthen its dealer ecosystem and lift service standards over the coming years.

“This collaboration is not just about growth, but it’s about building trust and delivering value to Malaysians for the long term. We are grateful to EON for joining us on this journey, as their established reputation and nationwide presence make them an invaluable partner. By working together, we are combining global innovation with local expertise to bring customers greater accessibility, service excellence, and a retail network that can grow sustainably,” said Ms Jahabarnisa Haja Mohideen, Managing Director of Hyundai Motor Malaysia.

EON, which has long operated a wide automotive retail network in Malaysia, says the tie-up fits its broader push to bring more brands under its umbrella, and to stay relevant as the market shifts towards newer tech and electrified models.

“This collaboration reflects EON’s continuous pursuit for new opportunities to shape Malaysia’s mobility future. And in line with our guiding principle ‘Passion Drives Possibilities’, we look forward to having Hyundai as one of our brands to enable us to deliver even greater value to our customers,” said Mr Akkbar Danial, Chief Executive Officer of EON Berhad.

It is worth pointing out what this announcement is, and what it is not. A Letter of Intent is a starting line, not the finish, it shows both parties want to work together, but it does not yet spell out the finer details that buyers usually care about, like dealer size, full facility specs, service capacity, or how big the network could eventually become beyond these two outlets.

Still, the direction is clear. Hyundai wants more touchpoints in major population centres, and EON brings operational experience and an existing footprint. If the two dealerships land on time in the first half of 2026, Klang Valley and Penang should become the most immediate beneficiaries of the renewed collaboration, at least in terms of easier access to sales and aftersales support.
