Govt. to Sign Concession Agreement for LPT2 By Year's End, Says Deputy Works Minister

Kuala Lumpur: Deputy Minister of Works, Datuk Rosnah Abdul Rashid Shirlin has said that the government will sign the concession agreement for LPT2 by the end of this year. She was speaking at the Dewan Rakyat yesterday, in reply to the question raised by Che Mohamad Zulkifly Jusoh (BN-Setiu), who asked when the LPT2 would be fully operational and what will be the share of distribution between the concessionaire and the Terengganu state government.

As reported by the Bernama, Datuk Rosnah Abdul Rashid Shirlin said that the 184km-long LPT2 was completed and opened to traffic on Jan 31, this year. At present, motorists do not need to pay any toll because the government is still finalising the concession agreement with the selected concession company after issuing the RFP to manage the expressway. The issues related to toll rates and division of equity including the interest of the state government have not yet been finalised. The government will sign the concession agreement for LPT2 by the end of this year.

The Deputy Works Minister also explained that the majority of accidents on the LPT2 were caused by the human factors (negligence), vehicle failures and also the environment. Based on surveys done between February and September, she revealed that 78% of accidents were caused due to human factors, 13% due to the environment and 9% due to vehicle failure.

Considering the increasing road death ratio of the country, Malaysian Highway Authority has taken proactive measures at the frequent accident sites by installing warning signs, reflective stickers, improving the road surface and many more, besides police enforcement to monitor the speed limit," she told the Dewan Rakyat (the lower house of the Parliament of Malaysia).
