Kia releases official image of the 2019 Xceed crossover

KUALA LUMPUR: The Ceed line-up is already far fetched, and now the South Korean company is further stretching it with the introduction of a crossover. Called the Xceed, the crossover is said to make its debut later this month.

Once launched, the Kia Ceed based crossover will sit alongside the Ceed Sportswagon, Ceed hatchback, and Proceed. It will be placed between the smaller Stonic and mid-size Kia Sportage. And will compete with the likes of Ford Focus and not with full-fledged sports utility vehicles.

The official image shows the side profile of the car that reveals a prominent shoulder line, sloping roofline, chunkier rear-end, however, the B-pillar reminds us of its hatch sibling. Also, visible in the images are its large wheels and typical lower body cladding done in plastic.

As per Kia, the Xceed “represents a sporty alternative to traditional larger SUVs”. In addition, the Kia new crossover will offer better handling and sportier driving position, all thanks to its lower hip point and elevated ride height.

“The Xceed is more innately desirable than many taller, larger SUVs. Yet it offers this without compromising on versatility, with its intelligent packaging achieving the cabin and storage space of an SUV in a sportier body and more compact footprint”, said Emilio Herrera, Kia Motors Europe COO.

The Xceed is expected to share its powertrains and fundamental underpinnings with the Ceed. Though nothing is confirmed yet, we are expecting it to be powered by the company’s 1.0-litre 3-cylinder turbo unit producing 118 hp along with a 1.4-litre turbo petrol engine developing 114 bhp. We are also hoping it to get Ceed GTs 201 bhp turbo unit.

Kia might also fit the Xceed crossover with a drive mode selector that would allow the driver to opt for an appropriate set-up based on the terrain and weather condition.
