Meet BYD’s new luxury EV sedan, the Yangwang U7

KUALA LUMPUR: BYD sub-brand Yangwang has unveiled its new electric sedan, the U7, to rival luxury electric giants such as the BMW i5 and Mercedes-Benz EQE.

For those who are not aware, YangWang is a high-end NEV (New Energy Vehicle) brand launched by the Chinese automaker in early 2023. The U8 EREV off-roader and U9 electric sports car are the other two offerings of this luxury brand.

Coming back to the Yangwang U7, the EV is slated to go on sale in China during the second half of 2024. Its key highlights are as follows -

• Based on BYD’s e4 platform, the EV measures 5,265 mm in length, 1,998 mm in width, and 1,517 mm in height and has a wheelbase of 3,160 mm
• It has a wind resistance coefficient of Cd 0.195, which is the lowest among production sedans worldwide
• Design-wise, the upcoming U7 features the brand’s signature design language. On the front bumper sits a large air intake with ultrasonic radar mounted on it

• Among the other key exterior highlights are C-shaped headlamp graphics, a sloped bonnet line, carbon fibre side skirt and splitters, retractable door handles, a LiDAR on the roof, a single tail light unit, and a sporty rear diffuser
• The EV stands on five-spoke 21-inch rims wrapped with Continental tyres
• As for the powertrain, no detailed specifications are yet available. However, the automaker announced that the EV would be powered by four electric motors producing a maximum power output of 1000 hp
• The Yangwang U7 price is estimated at around CNY 1 million (approximately equal to RM 659,616)
