Monthly wrap-up Jan 2023: New Perodua Axia open for booking, 2023 BMW M2, 2023 Hyundai Palisade facelift, 2023 BMW 330e M Sport facelift launch and more

The month of January was an exciting one both for the Malaysian and International automotive market. The local market over the last 31 days witnessed several car and motorcycle launches along with confirmation of several upcoming arrivals. As for the international market, several amazing cars and bikes were unveiled.

2023 Perodua Axia open for booking

The all-new Perodua Axia is now available for booking. It is known to be offered in four variants, with prices ranging from RM 38,600 to RM 49,000. All variants will be powered by the ongoing 1.0-liter three-cylinder petrol engine with 67 hp and 91 Nm. New however is the gearbox, a Dual-Mode CVT (D-CVT) unit.

2023 Peugeot Landtrek open for booking

The fully-imported Peugeot Landtrek is now open for booking. With a starting price of RM 123,000, the car will be powered by a 1.9-liter turbo diesel engine making 152 hp and 350 Nm of torque. The engine is paired exclusively to a six-speed automatic transmission.

All-new Kia Sorento open for booking

The new Sorento is now open for booking at an estimated price of RM 220,000 – RM 255,000, with an official launch in Malaysia slated for some time this year.

2023 BMW M2 launched

The all-new 2023 BMW M2 is now officially available in Malaysia. The car is available in two guises - the base BMW M2 model starting at RM 598,800 and M2 Pro Package for RM 642,800. Prices include the optional extended five-year warranty and free service program.

2023 Hyundai Palisade facelift launch

The 2023 Hyundai Palisade facelift is offered here in both a seven- and eight-seater variant, with prices starting at RM368,888 for the entry-level variant. Buyers will get to choose between a 3.8-liter naturally-aspirated V6 petrol engine or a 2.2-liter four-cylinder turbodiesel.

BMW iX xDrive50 Sport is now available

BMW Malaysia has updated its iX line-up with the launch of the all-new xDrive50 Sport variant. The fully-electric SUV offers additional performance and range, however, at an additional cost. The variant retails for RM 546,800 with a Service and Repair Inclusive package.

2023 BMW 320i M Sport facelift is now available

The new BMW 320i M Sport is a locally-assembled entry-level model priced at RM 283,800. Powering it is a turbocharged 2.0-liter inline-four engine making 184 hp and 300 Nm of torque. The power is sent to the wheels via an 8-speed Steptronic Sport automatic transmission.

2023 BMW 330i M Sport facelift is now available

The BMW 330i M Sport retails for RM 317,800 and will be locally assembled here at the company’s assembly plant. Powering it is a turbocharged 2.0-liter inline-four engine making 258 hp and 400 Nm of torque. The power is sent to the wheels via an 8-speed Steptronic Sport automatic transmission.

2023 BMW 330e M Sport facelift launched

We now have the latest version of the plug-in hybrid (PHEV) BMW 330e M Sport in Malaysia. Locally assembled, the plug-in hybrid 330e M Sport is priced at RM 298,800. Powering it is a 4-cylinder turbocharged engine (184 hp/300 Nm) and an electric motor (109 hp/265 Nm). Combined, the PHEV drive system makes 292 hp and 420 Nm. 

2023 MINI Electric updated

MINI Malaysia has launched the updated 2023 MINI Electric. Priced at RM 193,834; the new features in the MINI Electric include - a panoramic sunroof, heated front seats along with the new Nanuq White color. The new hue adds to the existing Midnight Black and White Silver.

BMW K 1600 B in Malaysia

BMW Motorrad Malaysia launched the all-new K 1600 B in the country last week. For the model year 2022, the luxury tourer comes with an improved engine with enhanced emission figures. Also, part of the new and improved kit is - a new engine control, a new engine drag torque control, a knock sensor system, fully adaptive LED lighting with an ‘adaptive headlight’, an anti-theft alarm, and a central locking system.

2023 Honda Wave Alpha in Malaysia

Honda Malaysia has updated the Wave Alpha kapcai for the model year 2023. The new model features a new 110 cc fuel injection engine meeting EURO 4 emission standard. The reworked mill offers better fuel efficiency and smooth power delivery.

2023 Honda ADV160 is now in Malaysia

Boon Siew Honda has officially introduced the all-new Honda ADV160 for the Malaysian market priced at RM 12,999. The scooter is now powered by a156.9cc 4-valve with eSP engine that makes 15hp and 14.7Nm.

Yamaha Malaysia launches new EZ115

Hong Leong Yamaha Motor launched a new underbone motorcycle in the country, the Euro-4-compliant Yamaha EZ115. Powered by a single-cylinder 114cc engine that puts out 8.7PS at 7,000rpm and 9.5Nm of torque at 5,500rpm, the scooter retails for RM 5,598.

All-New Aveta VZR250 In Malaysia

New for the Malaysian market is the entry-level Aveta VZR250 sport bike. Dubbed to be the most affordable quarter-liter motorcycle in its class. The Aveta VZR250 is priced at just RM 14,998, and the VZR250 makes 24hp and 21Nm from its single-cylinder 250cc DOHC 4-stroke engine.

BMW CE 04 previewed

BMW Motorrad opens a new chapter in electric mobility by introducing the all-new CE 04. Set for an official launch in March, the pricing of the fully electric motorcycle is estimated to be around RM60k.

Toyota Camry and Corolla prices hiked for 2023

Effective from 3rd Jan 2023, Toyota Malaysia has updated its price list for two of its models, the Corolla and Camry sedan. While the former experiences a price hike of RM 4,000 (both variants) and a RM 10,000 hike for the latter. The new prices are inclusive of the automaker's standard 5-year unlimited-mileage warranty.

BMW has updated its price list for 2023 where several models experience a hike. Part of the list is - the entire 3 Series, the X1 range, the fully-electric iX3, the 5 Series line-up, the i4, the iX, the Z4 sDrive30i M Sport, the M135i xDrive, the 630i GT M Sport, the 218i M Sport Gran Coupe. The enhanced price tags include the Service and Repair Inclusive that extends the car's warranty to 5 years along with a 5-year unlimited mileage service package.

MINI Malaysia’s price list updated for 2023

MINI has increased prices for several models that range from 0.2% to 4.1%, depending on the variant picked. The said price rise is attributed to rising manufacturing costs and global inflation. Part of the new price list is the following MINI cars - the 3-Door Cooper S, fully-electric Cooper SE, Convertible, 5-Door, Clubman Cooper S, Countryman Cooper S, and John Cooper Works models.

Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity now standard for all BMW models

Starting in 2023, BMW Malaysia will offer Smartphone Integration and Connected Package Professional as standard for all its models. Meaning Apple CarPay and Android Auto connectivity will now be free on all its cars.

2023 BMW XM official pricing announced

BMW Malaysia has finally revealed the price of its performance SUV, the XM. The car retails for RM 1,316,450 on the road without insurance and is offered in two trim options - the Shadow Line and Night Gold Line.

Toyota to get a new CEO

Toyota CEO and grandson of the company’s founder, Akio Toyoda will step down as CEO of the company on 1 April to make way for Koji Sato. The latter is the current president of Lexus and Gazoo Racing. As for Toyoda, he will be the chairman of the board of directors of the company.

Volkswagen ID.7 debuts

Volkswagen’s sixth ‘ID’ all-electric car, the VW ID.7 made its debut this past month but all covered in a bright-colored digital camouflage. The ID.7 is the second VW built on the brand’s MEB platform after the ID.4. The luxury electric sedan will have a range of 700 km and accompanied by several innovative features like - a new display concept, an augmented reality head-up display, a 15-inch screen, new air conditioning controls integrated into the first level of the infotainment system, and illuminated touch slider.

Polestar 2 EV updated for the model year 2024

For the model year 2024, the Polestar 2 update includes a new front fascia, new electric motors, powerful batteries, and a rear-wheel drivetrain along with sustainability improvements.

2023 BMW M3 CS unveiled

BMW has introduced the new M3 CS sedan, the M4 coupe’s sibling. The new limited production model is said to offer more power output, compelling performance, and weight loss. Powering it will be a 3.0-liter twin-turbo straight-six engine making a maximum power of 550 PS at 6,250 rpm along with a peak torque of 650 Nm from 2,750 to 5,950 rpm.

2023 Yamaha Grand Filano launched

It was only recently that the Indonesian market was blessed by the Yamaha Fazzio, it now is on the receiving end of the all-new 2023 Yamaha Grand Filano Hybrid Connected scooter. Available at a retail price of 27.5 million rupiahs (approximately RM 7,764), the model falls in the same category as the Aerox 155. The model is powered by a 125cc single-cylinder Bluecore engine with SOHC and EFI making 8.2 hp at 6,500 rpm and 10.4 Nm at 5,000 rpm.
