Naza Automotive Manufacturing releases 300 work force
Kuala Lumpur: Naza Automotive Manufacturing (NAM), in a recent turn of events, has surprisingly laid off 300 works at its assembly plant (Gurun, Kedah). According to a report, this layoff includes 225 ground level staff employees and 30 people from NAM Committee, the remainder of the employees were from administration staff. The report was received from The Malaysian Insider.
This NAM plant from 2004 (since its inception) had a workforce of approximately 1000 and assembled Peugeot and Kia models in its assembly.
The report further added that NAM's staff was given a farewell party yesterday in Gurun at Dewan Seri Zaleha, where they then received their letters of termination. NAM COO Roslan Abd Ghani and labour department officer were present during this event.
To follow up, Naza Group has released a short statement in this matter:
“We have undertaken an exercise to rationalise the staff strength at Naza Automotive Manufacturing given the tough economic conditions brought about by the weakening ringgit and domestic and export demand. However, at this time, our priority and focus is to assist and support where we can, those affected, to ensure that their welfare is well managed and taken care of. We have provided a separation package to enable them to plan their future endeavours. Meanwhile, we shall continuously address measures of cost efficiency without compromising our quality of service to our customers.”
