SDAC-Ford supports less fortunate & local young artists this Chinese New Year

KUALA LUMPUR: With only a couple of days left for Chinese New Year 2023, the automakers are celebrating the festivity with exciting discounts, promotions, and events. SDAC-Ford is no exception to that as the company ushers into the new year with significant acts of giving back to the community.

As a part of its pre-Chinese New Year CSR efforts, the sole distributor of Ford vehicles in Malaysia organised charity visits in its long-standing tradition. The company visited three charitable homes, two of which were selected via a contest that ran with the collaboration of Astro MELODY. 

The contest invited the listeners to nominate the old folk’s home or orphanage that they think needs to get early festive cheer and assistance. Then out of the nominations, it selected two homes Ti Ratana Welfare Society’s Orphanage and En Yuan Old Folk Home. 

The volunteer employees of the company visited these homes with Astro MELODY on three separate days and helped with spring cleaning as it is the tradition of pre-celebration. Not only that, but they also organised karaoke for the En Yuan old folks’ home while the children at Ti-Ratana were entertained by a clown. The popular MELODY DJs - Mei Sim Hoon, Jentzen Lim, and William San also joined these charity visits.

The third home selected by SDAC-Ford Ara Damansara and Petaling Jaya for direct support was Persatuan Kebajikan Kanak-kanak Terencat Akal Malaysia (IQ70Plus), which takes care of individuals who suffer from intellectual disabilities and predominantly belong to single or underprivileged families.

The volunteers, along with spring cleaning, offered these charity homes essential items as requested by each specific home based on their requirements. 

“We are glad to play our role in contributing back to society and spreading some CNY cheer this festive season. These charity visits have been part of SDAC-Ford’s CSR efforts for decades. Coming together to care for the less fortunate is an activity that our employees look forward to every year,” said Turse Zuhair, Managing Director, Sime Darby Auto ConneXion-Ford.

Further, SDAC-Ford also extended its helping hand to the home-grown young artists, who are talented but deprived of exposure. The company provided them with a platform for the creation of a unique hip hop-rap Chinese New Year song generating some mainstream awareness for the local rap group “Goodest Plan”.

You can listen to this Ford CNY song on Astro MY and LITE radio channels from January 16 to the Chinese New Year. The lyrical video of the song is also available on the Ford Malaysia YouTube channel. 

“This year, we also wanted to extend our support to youth development and the progress of home-grown talents that need opportunities and exposure. We know how challenging our local music scene can be, which is why we decided to engage a relatively unknown but very talented rap group to create a brand-new Ford song to welcome in the Lunar New Year,” Zuhair added.
