KUALA LUMPUR: The electric cables manufacturing company Ho Wah Genting Bhd (HWGB), along with its subsidiary HWGB EV has collaborated with a Chinese electric carmaker ‘Seiyong’ for assembling and distribution of its electric car in Malaysia. Dubbed as the Seiyong S1, the EV was first introduced in China two years ago.
Ho Wah chief executive officer Datuk Aaron Lim stated that the electric vehicle industry is still a growing industry in the country and the group strongly believes that the Seiyong S1 would push it for a brighter future. "The innovative development strategy of Seiyong Motor has demonstrated that it has a strong market expansion plan and its core competitiveness is one of their factors to success,” he added.
On the power front, Seiyong S1 is fitted with an electric motor that delivers a maximum power of 47 hp and a peak torque of 150 Nm. The motor is powered by a 31.9-kWh lithium battery pack that is capable of providing a claimed range of 302 km on a single charge, according to the NEDC cycle. The battery gets fully charged in 10 hours when using the regular charger, while a fast charging adapter can charge it from 30% to 80% in just 40 to 50 minutes. In terms of performance, the century sprint is not known; however, the company claimed a top speed of 110 kmph.
In terms of styling, the EV boasts a slick exterior design and comfortable interior layout with a number of creature comforts like an eight-inch touchscreen with voice recognition, a head-up display, automatic climate control system, keyless entry, and push-start ignition, and automatic headlamps.
According to the Ho Wah Genting, the EV is mainly “suitable for all the consumer groups from housewives and college students, to corporate executives and white-collar workers. It can meet the needs of both the urban and suburban people’s daily commute to work and leisure such as commuting to and fro work, picking up children to school, shopping for daily necessities and even outskirts travel.”
