Volvo Thailand lineup gets XC40 Recharge EV

KUALA LUMPUR: Volvo XC40 Recharge is now a part of the Volvo Thailand EV range. The new addition only came in a few months after the introduction of the XC40 Recharge T5 plug-in hybrid model.

The fully electric XC40 Recharge is priced at 2,590,000 baht (approx. RM 345K), making it around 200,000 baht (RM 27K) dearer than the T5 plug-in hybrid trim. Also, the new XC40 Recharge, the first mass-produced Volvo EV is available in Thailand as a full-imported unit from China. It weighs around 2,500 kg with the battery pack alone responsible for 400-500 kg.

Compared to the regular internal combustion engine XC40, the full-electric model looks quite different, especially from the front. Key highlights being -

  • Enclosed front grille
  • Full LED lighting
  • Recharge script on C-pillar
  • Swanky 19-inch wheels covered in 235/50 profile tyres
  • Modified-specific emblem on the tailgate
  • Hands-free powered tailgate
  • 31-litre front (since there is no engine) and 413-litre rear boot space

Exterior colour options - Black Stone, Blue Denim Metallic, Green Saga Metallic, White Crystal Pearl, Thunder Grey Metallic, Glacier Silver Metallic, and Fusion Red Metallic

Though the regular ICE-only XC40 and electric XC40 look almost identical on the inside, there are a few additional features like -

  • Revised 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster with model-specific displays
  • New Android Automotive OS-based infotainment display
  • Volvo On Call digital connected services platform
  • Charcoal black with Nubuck/Nappa leather upholstery
  • Dual-zone automatic climate control with Clean Zone

  • 13-speaker Harman Kardon sound system with a 600-watt amplifier

Volvo XC40 Recharge powertrain & performance

In Thailand, the XC40 Recharge is offered in the range-topping P8 AWD version. Meaning, it features a dual-motor set up one each of both axles, generating maximum power of 408 PS and a peak torque of 660 Nm. The motor is paired to a 78 kWh lithium-ion-battery that offers an approximate range of 400 km on a full charge.

Performance-wise, the full-electric XC40 Recharge is enabled to complete a 0 to 100 kmph sprint in just 4.9 seconds. Its top speed like all the Volvo vehicles is set at 180 kmph

Both AC and DC charging options are available. While a three-phase 11 kW AC wall box takes 7.5 hours, the latter (150 kW) will charge the battery from 0 to 80% in just 40 minutes.

The full-electric XC40 Recharge model benefits from a full suite of driver assist systems that include - autonomous emergency braking with pedestrian, animal, and cyclist detection, adaptive cruise control, rear cross-traffic alert with braking intervention, queue assist with stop and exit function, front distance alert, 360-degree panoramic view camera, and Park Assist Pilot.

What else?

With each purchase, the XC40 Recharge will benefit from the Volvo Care Package that includes four years of free digital transaction services, a 5-year manufacturer warranty, 8-year battery warranty, 24-hour Volvo Assistance for 5-years, free wall box charger with inspection and installation, and free first-class insurance for three years.
