Smart #6 PHEV revealed as brand's first-ever sedan; offers 1,810 km combined range

KUALA LUMPUR: After an impressive lineup of SUVs (#1, #3, and #5), Smart has finally come up with its first-ever sedan, the #6. While the official details of the vehicle are yet to surface, China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) has released the images and some key details about the upcoming smart #6.

    smart #6: What we know so far

    • Touted as the brand’s biggest model to date, the Smart #6 measures 4906 mm in length, 1922 mm in width, 1508 mm in height, and spans a wheelbase of 2926 mm.
    • The sedan has a sleek, sporty fastback-style design featuring a sloping roofline and full-width LED light bars at the front and rear. Adding to its clean, aerodynamically focused profile are pop-out hidden door handles and an active rear spoiler.  
    • Notably, the smart #6 is not a pure electric vehicle; instead, it is a plug-in hybrid model - a first for the brand.

    • Based on Geely’s NordThor Hybrid 2.0 technology, the new EHD plug-in hybrid system combines a 161 hp 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine and an electric motor, producing a total system output of 429 hp.
    • Also part of the plug-in hybrid setup is a 3-speed DHT (Dedicated Hybrid Transmission) and a lithium iron phosphate battery sourced from SVOLT or CATL.

    • While the battery capacity has not been revealed yet, the automaker confirms a CLTC pure electric range is 285 km. The combined driving range is estimated at 1,810 km, with fuel consumption of as low as 3.9 litres per 100 km.
    • The upcoming smart #6 PHEV also features a roof-mounted LIDAR sensor, confirming a wide range of advanced driver-assistance systems.  
    • As for the interior, no official details or images have surfaced yet; however, we can expect a digital forward cabin with premium touches, similar to the brand’s other models.

    Will the smart #6 come to Malaysia?
