SsangYong Rexton facelift teaser released, debut on November 2

KUALA LUMPUR: SsangYong Rexton, the brand’s family SUV received its second-generation update in 2017, and now it is set for a mid-life cycle refresh. The South Korean automaker recently teased the images of the new Rexton, which will be officially revealed on November 2 in its home country.

The pre-facelifted Rexton looked a little bland when it comes to the design, which seems to be rectified in the upcoming version. The teaser images revealed the design upgrades in the form of a new front fascia featuring a much bigger grille, a sportier bumper, and a new pair of full-LED headlights with integrated LED daytime running lights.

Moving to the rear end styling, here the SUV retains the overall shape but will be getting the new, sharper T-shaped LED tail lights and sporty bumper. The automaker also repositioned the Rexton badge; it is now placed much higher on the boot lid, just under the rear windscreen.

Besides the rugged exterior, the new SsangYong Rexton is expected to arrive with a tech-laden interior. It could get a digital driver's display in place of analog meters. An updated touchscreen infotainment system with the latest connectivity options is also likely to be on the cards.

Coming to the oily bits, the new Rexton seems to get the power from the ongoing 2.2-litre diesel engine that churns out 188 PS of maximum power and 422 Nm of peak torque. However, the other reports suggest the addition of a new turbo petrol engine onboard. It may be a 2.0-litre turbo gasoline mill from the parent’s company mStallion family. Earlier in May, SsangYong revealed the Tivoli facelift that houses Mahindra’s 1.2-litre turbo-petrol engine.

The full-size SsangYong Rexton SUV rivals the likes of the Toyota Fortuner, Ford Everest, Skoda Kodiaq, and Volkswagen Tiguan Allspace in the international market.

SsangYong has not yet spoken about the pricing details of the upcoming Rexton version.
