The future of mobility looks ultra-automated with Hyundai

KUALA LUMPUR: Hyundai Motors has joined hands with IonQ, one of the world-leading quantum computing companies. Why? To make the future of mobility much more safer and automated.

KEY TAKEAWAYS

  • What does Hyundai and IonQ plan to do togther?

The two companies have set up a foundation for a project wherein quantum machine learning is used to classify images and recognise 3D objects.

    Hyundai and IonQ partnership

How different is quantum machine learning from the current technology used in the automotive industry? Machine learning in quantum computers is known to be super accurate, plus the system is capable of processing big chunks of data in no time. Overall, it is a big leap over current technology.

It is not the first time Hyundai has partnered with InoQ. Previously the two came together to improve the performance, cost, and safety of EV batteries via quantum computing. With object detection and image classification research on the list, IonQ CEO and President Peter Chapman expects “to see quantum computers become an even more integral part in developing novel transportation solutions."

IonQ’s quantum computerlassify 43 different types of traffic signalss

The IonQ’s quantum computers can classify 43 different types of traffic signals in the system created. Next, IonQ’s machine learning data will be tested on several real-life scenarios in Hyundai’s test environment.

    Hyundai and IonQ partnership details

Hyundai and IonQ will develop quantum approaches for 3D object identification under this project. The identification task would be performed by IonQ Aria, the brand’s latest quantum computer with 20 algorithmic qubits. Thus, paving a path for safer, efficient, and intelligent mobility.

Such developments intrigue us about the future of mobility. What are your thoughts? Let us know in the comments.
