Toyota initiates sale of Raize in Japan

KUALA LUMPUR: It’s November 5th and yes, as per the previous declaration, Toyota has initiated the sale of its TNGA (Toyota New Global Architecture) - based model, Raize in Japan. Ahead of this debut, a few images and the brochure of the car were leaked from which its technical spec-sheet and styling packages revealed.

In Japan, the price tag ranges between 1,679,000 yen and 2,282,200 yen, which is RM 64,000 and RM 87,000 in Malaysian currency. From November 12th onwards, a subscription service will be also added, for which the users have to pay 39,820 yen (RM 1,500) on a monthly basis.

The car looks almost the same as in the leaked images including a few aesthetic changes. The length is 3,995 mm and the width is 1,695 mm. Exterior wise, Toyota Raize features black coloured A- and D-pillars and the C-pillars get its body colour. Apart from these,

there are prominent wheel arch bulges, bumper-mounted rear number plate and broad two-piece taillights. However, the design of the front end has been revamped. There is a trapezoidal lower grille that comes with squared-off bumper corners and LED DRLs enclosures. Toyota Raize rides on turbine-style two-tone designed 17-inch wheels.

Under the skin, irrespective of the models, Raize gets a 1.0-litre three-cylinder turbocharged engine, which can push out a maximum power of 98 PS at 6,000 rpm and a peak torque of 140 Nm between 2,400 and 4,000 rpm. Furthermore, the engine is mated to a D-CVT. The car also gets a monocoque construction, which can utilise high-tensile steel plates to increase the rigidity.

Speaking of the safety features, Raize gets Daihatsu’s Smart Assist suite of driver assistance systems. There are also autonomous emergency braking along with pedestrian detection, Erroneous Start Prevention Function and many more. The inside-look is similar to Toyota’s upcoming compact SUV, Rocky. The dashboard looks more driver-oriented and there is a nine-inch infotainment touchscreen. Toyota Raize also comes with SmartDeviceLink screen mirroring along with Apple CarPlay functionality.
