Transport Minister Reminds Traffic Offenders to Pay Up AES-Related Fines

Kuala Lumpur: Notwithstanding recent reports that all backlogged and outstanding AES summonses may be scrapped, Transport Minister Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai has reminded traffic offenders to pay up AES related fines. Just a few weeks ago, it was reported that the government would be scrapping all existing AES-related fines before starting the second phase of AES (Automated Enforcement System) traffic monitoring system with the installation of 350 enforcement cameras throughout the country by the end of first quarter of next year. However, as reported by theSunDaily, Transport Minister Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai has confirmed that while a decision is yet to made by Cabinet, all 14 enforcement cameras across the country are still active and the Malaysian traffic offenders need to pay up the AES-related fines, accordingly.

Liow was speaking to members of the media at a ground-breaking ceremony for the construction of a new high-school in Ipoh. He also revealed that the results of the existing AES System review would only be ready some some time early next year as the authorities are still working on a solution to revive the AES system along with the Kejara demerit points system.

“We are not dragging our feet, but the government has to come out with something which can be implemented for the benefit of the rakyat,” he added.  As of now, the 14 enforcement cameras under the pilot phase of AES have been responsible for over 2.1 million summonses issued for various traffic offenses between September 23, 2012 to September 30, 2015. However, the traffic offenders have not paid around half a billion ringgit in compounds.
