Volkswagen’s seventh ID. concept, ID. Space Vizzion revealed
KUALA LUMPUR: Volkswagen has revealed ID. Space Vizzion concept at the 2019 Los Angeles Auto Show recently. Volkswagen ID. Space Vizzion is the seventh ID. electric concept vehicle of the brand after ID.3, ID. Crozz, ID. Buzz, ID. Vizzion, ID. Buggy and ID. Roomzz. The latest ID. Space Vizzion gets the ‘aerodynamic design of a Gran Turismo with the space of an SUV’ according to the brand and it is based on Volkswagen’s MEB (Modular Electric Drive Matrix) architecture, which is used for fully electric vehicles.

The highlighted feature of the ID. Space Vizzion is its interior space. As the name suggests and as per the brand, the interior “is more akin to the space found within a premium long-wheelbase vehicle rather than in a mid-range model.” The interior of the EV also gets AppleSkin upholstery, which is a man-made leather containing some materials left over from the apple juice production. Volkswagen also said, there is no chrome used in the interior and instead of that, it gets chrome-like paint to make it bright.

Information display inside the cabin comes with two segments; a head-up display for the driver to provide basic driving info and a 15.6-inch central floating touchscreen for comfort, entertainment and online functions like vehicle settings and more.

Under the hood, there is an 82 kWh battery pack, which offers up to 590 km range on a single charge. Maximum power of 275 hp and a peak torque of 500 Nm is generated by an electric motor on the rear axle. There will be also an AWD version of the car which will come with an additional electric motor on the front axle to make the total power to 335 hp. The more powerful version can achieve the famous sprint (0-100 kmph) in just 5.4 seconds.

Volkswagen showcased a production version of the vehicle. The version will remain the same as the concept, as per the carmaker and it will go into production as ID. 5 in the year 2021. It will also be manufactured in the US and the sale will be initiated in 2022 for the region.
