3 Simple steps to clean windshield wiper blades

The wiper blades tend to leave streaks unless they are brand new, and that’s not a good thing during rains and dusty conditions. During such times, what you tend to do? Spray washer fluid till the time the wiper leaves no to little lines. However, no matter how many time you spray that washer fluid, the wiper blades still cover the windshield with lines and even at times big spots, right?

So, does that mean its time to replace the wiper blades? Or they should have lasted a few more months, according to you?

A wiper blade is said to be at the top of its game when it is able to apply even pressure on the windshield. For a clear view of the road ahead, you need two things clean, first the windshield glass and second the wiper blades. And it goes without saying that the former can only be achieved by the later.

Therefore, it’s essential to have clean wiper blades. So, here are a few tips and tricks that would help you achieve clean wiper blades only in a couple of minutes.

Things you need -

  • A few clean paper towels or rags
  • Hot soapy water or washer fluids
  • Rubbing alcohol

Pro tip -

Before you start cleaning the wiper blades, make sure your car is washed properly. You can wash it yourself or take it to a car wash facility, as the purpose is to remove as much grime and dirt as possible. And every bit helps, so go for it.

Step-by-step instructions to get clean wiper blades -

  • Gently lift the wiper blades from the windshield glass
  • Take a clean rug and apply a small amount of washer fluid on it, then slowly wipe the wiper blade edges. You can also use hot soapy water instead to wipe the ends. Rember it is a slow and gentle process, so it will take several attempts till all the dirt comes out from the blade edges
  • Do not forget to wipe the hinged area of the wiper blade, as this will ensure a smooth fluid movement

  • Now, its time to clean the edges of the blades with the rubbing alcohol. This step is essential as it will ensure that no soapy residue is left on the wiper blade
