Chery Omoda E5

Chery has made the Omoda E5 feel even more futuristic and modern on the inside, with the cabin displaying a fine sense of technology and premium appeal. The tech-laden cabin of the Chery Omoda E5 is offered in two options of leather upholstery – all-black and dual-tone black and blue. 

Sitting behind the flat-bottom multi-functional steering wheel, the Chery Omoda E5 has a large and wide 24.6-inch curved and trapezoidal digital cockpit, which extends towards the centre console and accommodates high-definition screens for the instrument console and touchscreen infotainment system. While the upper dashboard has a textured finish, the middle layer of the dashboard has a sleek panel which houses the AC vents of the crossover. The lower centre console also has a textured finish for the cover of the closed compartment that houses cup holders ahead of the drive mode controller. 

One of the most feature-packed vehicles to have ever come from Chery, the Omoda E5 is packed with equipment including a sunroof, dual-zone automatic climate control with rear AC vents, 64-coloured ambient lighting, front ventilated seats, 8-speaker Sony audio system, powered front seats, wireless charger, intelligent voice assist, front armrest with cooled compartment below it and more.

While the Chery Omoda E5 is based on the Omoda 5 crossover, Chery has made significant tweaks to the exterior of the former. The Omoda E5 has a differentiated look of an all-electric vehicle, which makes the already cutting-edge design even more futuristic in its appearance.

At the front, the Chery Omoda E5 has a closed grille, unlike the Omoda 5, which gives a clean look to the fascia of the electric crossover. The well-contoured bonnet flows down towards the fascia, and at their meeting curve, there is a black strip which features the name of the crossover and extends to the sides while meeting with the daytime running LEDs on the sides. The corners of the rather cleaner-looking bumper get swanky boomerang-shaped headlamp clusters, which feature LED projectors and extensions of the LED DRLs.

The Chery Omoda E5 looks edgy and long from the side, with the electric crossover having a slightly sloping-down roofline and a kink on the shoulder line below the rear quarter glass panel. These features, along with the satin silver finish for the entire shoulder line, door-mounted sleek-looking rearview mirrors and a chrome strip on the lower part of the door panels make the Chery Omoda E5 look even more stylish.

At the back, the Chery Omoda E5 has a sharply raked rear windscreen, which has a sporty-looking spoiler above it and a wide boot lid below it. The sleek tail lamps with boomerang-shaped outer corners have a combination design with LED inserts and meet each other with the help of a connected LED light bar running between them. 

With three drive modes on offer – Eco, Normal and Sport, the Chery Omoda E5 has a preferred driving setup for everyone. The crossover comes with a comfort-oriented setup for the suspension combination – Macpherson struts at the front and multi-link at the rear. The 18-inch alloy wheels and dynamic design of the Chery Omoda E5 also contribute to its decent on-road driving mannerisms. 

The all-electric powertrain of the Chery Omoda E5 is a combination of a 150kW electric motor and a 61kWh lithium-ion battery pack. With a claimed maximum power output of 203 PS, the single electric motor of the Chery Omoda E5 propels it to a top speed of 172 kmph and enables it to achieve the 0-100 kmph sprint in 7.6 seconds. Meanwhile, the 61kWh battery pack of the Chery Omoda E5 claims to deliver a 430 km range while taking 30 minutes to charge from 30 to 80 per cent using an 80kW DC fast charger. 

The long list of modern safety features offered in the Chery Omoda E5 as standard are six airbags, ABS with EBD, traction control, electronic stability control, brake assist, hill start assist, hill descent control, tyre pressure monitoring system and parking sensors at front and rear. The comprehensive ADAS package of the Chery Omoda E5 includes lane departure warning, blind spot detection, emergency lane keeping, rear cross-traffic alert, adaptive cruise control, front collision warning, autonomous emergency braking, lane departure prevention, lane change assist, traffic jam assist, integrated cruise assist, rear cross-traffic braking, rear collision warning, driver monitoring system, door open warning, multi-collision brake, intelligent evasion system and departure reminder.
