A tool, not a toy
The new Mazda MX 5 RF is a beastly powerhouse, which I chose not for practicality but because I missed sitting behind the wheel by myself. The power retractable fastback roof transforms in mere thirteen seconds, and I always found myself making excuses to stop and stare at the marvelous technique. Mazda’s near-perfect 50:50 weight distribution is obvious the moment I turn it on, especially on the winding roads outside Kuala Kubu Bharu. Every input feels immediate, honest, and mechanical. The cabin is snug but purposeful, making solo drives meaningful rather than cramped. At legal speeds, the car spurs to life, which is seldom in today’s market. That said, storage space is limited to a point where weekend packing gets overwhelming.
